Many of you have heard of the rainy day project and quite a few of us were interested in this game.

Dragonslayer has made all the sources available including the source code. See dragonslayers post for the link to the sources.

    http://boards.openpandora.org/index.php/topic/3103-rainy-day-game-project/page-22#entry228237

I wish I had the time to help out but im working on 2 other game documents at the moment and working a part time job.

    What I'm proposing is simple.

Instead of just 2 guys plugging away at this in their spare time we need at least four people to continue work on this project.

This would ease the workload greatly and make the completion of this project less daunting and eminently feasible.

Each person should have a clearly defined role in the process, ie Programmer, 2 graphic artists, a game designer to build a game document and someone to do music.

Imo each role should be owned by each individual but each team member should be open to each others ideas too.

Imo there should only be one person in charge to manage the production of the game as someone needs to hold hard to the reins.

If anyone here on the forums is interested I believe it could be done. 4 people would be enough. Too many people on a project of this size would lead to chaos and communication breakdown.

If anyone is interested in taking rainy day to completion think hard before you commit. There is plenty of hard work to do im sure.

Imo it would be best to commit to this project, ONLY if you absolutely can commit to it for the long haul.

So what do ye think? Anyone want to take this under consideration?

If ye would like i could pop in from time to time and offer my humble advice etc.

Come on guys and gals. Make it so!

I'd be thrilled if anyone completed this.

Sorry that I can't be much help :(

Archibald is also really busy with other projects... That's also one of the reasons we couldn't continue work (it wasn't just me)

Hopefully the original artists can stay on to be consulted, at least...  might as well try to fit with their intentions...

Can you clarify licensing terms for the source / resources?

    FWIW I like public domain > MIT > BSD > LGPL > GPL2 > GPL3.

But anything open-sourcey is fine, really.

One day I might get back to this but I would never ever try coding it in C++ again! Working on a new game in Unity3D now and it's a fantastic tool, too bad it doesn't export for Pandora (or Pyra) though, unless you're running Android of course ;)

FWIW, I note your link to sources gives me a 404 when I just checked it now. It would be nice to get the source into something like github where anyone can poke about with it and see what's there.

You're right, I don't have github though but I guess I should take a look at it, could be useful for my new game too :)

    ^^^^^ Yes you did. :p :D

On a side note, I always thought it had potential.

I agree I really liked the idea and setting of the game. I might get back to it and rework it with 2D characters and 3D backgrounds. But as I said I would be using Unity3D then so it wouldn't run on Pandora/Pyra. If only there was some kind of Game Maker program that can export to Pandora/Pyra, cause doing everything in C++ is just too much!

Btw, for those who wonder what I'm working on now: http://makega.me/t/wip-lands-of-treasure-2d-pixel-art-action-adventure-rpg/365 ;)

Can you do it in Python/pygame?

It's not hard to translate python code to C++, someone in the community could do that for you.

Python is a nice language, much easier than C++, good for "beginner coders" and professionals alike, and it's well worth learning.

If you code in python or a similar language, I'll volunteer to translate it to C++ if needed; but be warned that I'm not very reliable!

Python/pygame itself does run on the Pandora, but as I recall it runs very slowly.

If you go with Unity 3d, you can still do a PC Linux release, so that's good.

Or he can be a guinea pig tester for my port of the godot-engine (I could really use some feedback from someone creating an actual game) ... create everything on PC (or even directly on pandora), export for Linux and replace the binary with my ported one ... then there is only packaging left to be done.

And its very easy to learn too, back when I made my entry for ludumdare 29 it was my first time actually using it (only porting and testing before that).

Also if the performance is bad, it can be optimized or extended since it is open-source.

I only get a white page there ...

edit: I can read about it by looking at the HTML code ...

I really wish I had the time motivation to pick this up... It would be fairly simple to continue it's development since it's coded using Penjin... A lot of problem I have is no feedback == no motivation... so if you as a community would agree to keep interested and spur me on maybe I could/would pick this up and continue it?

Also someone would need to do art and sound... D_S, would you be motivated enough to keep providing assets?

    Thoughts people?

That's a big problem ... it's really hard to get feedback, but looking back at the amount of attention this project got, I think there will be enough people around providing at least some feedback.

Maybe I can help a little bit as well, but since I have no experience with Penjin and am not very good with pixelart or sounds I think there is not too much I can help with.

I would help out where I can. I can only help with game design or story if needed. I'm working on an indie unity game atm.

Targeting a Pyra release would make more sense now though imo.

Any help would be appreciated as help again shows people are interested and help to keep motivation levels high.

Oh absolutely - I would probably migrate this to PenjinTwo and in any case I intend to add support for Pyra to Penjin and PenjinTwo as soon as a definite button map is available.

Are the sources and content still around somewhere?

All I can find is a old link that does not work anymore.

@DREDD: Changing programming language wouldn't really change much, it's still code only... I would like to have a graphical editor ;)

@1212: That godot-engine actually looks really cool :D I'll have to look into that :) Strange that the link doesn't work for you... Here is the Unity forum topic: you'll have to look at the later pages to see screens from the newer build:

    http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/227397-Lands-of-Treasure-2D-(pixel-art)-Action-Adventure-RPG

@PokeParadox: The main problem with continuing Rainy Day is that I don't see myself making the graphics... I chose pixel art for my new project cause that's doable for me but not those amazing hand painted stuff Archibald did :/

@Wrath of Khan: Working on a Unity game? :D Tell me more! ;)

Here is the Rainy Day source again:

Anyone who knows a good place to keep it online for the whole community feel free to upload it there ;)

I personally think you should also share the link on other linux forums since there may be more people interested in it, and it might get more atention
