Okay, this might be a stupid questions, but.. from where can you get PNDs?

I mean, there was once a link on the pandora HP that pointed to, I think, http://apps.open-pandora.org/

But here in the forums, every second PND is in another place. A quick search gives:

http://dl.openhandhelds.org/

http://www.hermocom.com/en/downloads/openpandora/

http://www.stuckiegamez.co.uk/apps/pandora/gimp-2.6.pnd (couldn't find an index)

http://rebirthofxeen.com/files/pandora/

and so on and so forth

now, I guess that at least the last two are just webspaces of forum users which they use to distribute their ports (but why they donn't use the file archive escapes me), but still, I'm a bit confused.

Assuming I searched for the PND of a pecific app, on which websites should I look for it? how many are there?

I can't speak for stuckie, but I and several other devs put PNDs to personal webspace for beta testing, and once we're sure it's good, move it to the official repositories: either apps.open-pandora.org, dl.openhandhelds.org, or both.

I think not having all the eggs in one basket is a good thing..

Here is the definitive location to look at : http://pandorawiki.org/Games
Well, only for games (stuff like the gimp wouldn't be there EDIT: it has a link to a software list, so nvm), and who knows if everyone who made one goes to update that list (or has it updated by another person). Don't get me wrong, it sure is a great ressource

Makes sense, thanks

You're probably not used to package managers, are you? The thing I love about linux the most is that you have one central place for nearly every program so you don't have to search around on different sites or even google :)

Well, it's updated by me pretty much. There are 3 lists on the wiki, one for games, one for emulators, and one for everything else (that's "software projects"). You can see at the top of the page when the most recent update was, in italics.

Basically, every few days or so I search around all the places where files are posted/announced and add them all to the lists (though I often don't add programs if a PND hasn't been made yet).

By the way, you missed some sites. ;)

Well I am used to that, but what you may not know is most YUM/IPK/OPK repositories are mirrored on many different hosts, if you can't connect to one it connects to the backup. I was just considering the fact that servers go down and such..

Yeah,l such backups are great, but they only work if everyone always uploads their PND to all of them - so backup sites should be automatic :)

@ESN: Great work, let's just hope someone else does it when you grow tired of it :)

Possibly dumb question: is there any way to determine the total filesize of all PNDs? Would be nice to just have... well.. everything. Shoved onto an SD card and good to go.

Judging by the filesizes on the Openhandhelds category, this would be pretty easy to do on even the most mediocre of SD card. But that doesn't really help with the logistics of getting it all downloaded.

Bring on a "Build your own bundle" option!

Most applications would be easy.. the hard part would be to fit roms for emulators. I mean... a Playstation Game is about 400-600mb each. Gameboy Advance games are about 1-16mb. I got a game library of SNES-games that is over 8gb.

If you want to play the doom game, you'd need the original files... same goes for quake and so on. All in all.. it does pile up. However, I guess you could make a card with all applications/games/emulators and just use other cards for data storage.
