Pandora Color Depth

I was wondering if anyone can fill me in on this. According to the tech specs for the pandora, the screen is listed as:

"800x480 resolution LTPS LCD with resistive touch screen, 4.3" widescreen, 16.7 million colors (300 cd/m2 brightness, 450:1 contrast ratio)"

I thought 16.7 millions colors was a 24 bit color depth, but my pandora is set to 16 bit color depth. I tried to set it to 24 bit in the configuration, but now the screen won't display anything. Is there an issue with my pandora or are they planning on upping the color depth of the OS in the future, or am I not figuring the color depth correctly?

Hardware specifications are hardware specifications. The X server doesnt at the moment understand anything but 16bpp IIRC. Will be fixed when somebody fixes it.

Wait, what? What X version are we using?

Correction: xf86-video-omapfb (not the X server...) ... and the version is: 1:0.1.1+r11g+gitrdb636c8436265c3d86c5b8e00785e45d55825c80-r11g.5
