Just a baby diamond python. It was at the bottom, I have no idea how it didn't drown. Poor thing. :(

Anyway, an hour in a cosy box and it started to come good. Lookitchu!

I rang the wildlife people, they told me to keep it overnight, and if it looked happy and healthy in the morning, send it on its way. In the meantime, I'm trying not to get too attached. (His name is Darrell and his favourite colour is purple).

I read that and thought you put it in the cooking pot, but apparently not all of us are heartless :D

I was curious and I did a quick google, it appears the right lung in snakes is pretty large almost the length of the snake. It appears that some snakes can at times remain submerged for at least 20 mins. Its possible the snake was resting, went up for a breath and floated back down. Maybe it repeated this until you found it.

Nice to read you have saved its life :) Try to give it a kiss from "good ol' uncle Sam from France"

How lovely, I think you should keep it as long as it doesn't hate you and bite you all the time. Other than that, I think it would be less of a burden on whatever place you'd be sending it.

Wiki says they are not poisonous.
Why not just release it in the yard?

It was really unwell when I scooped it out of the pool, not moving at all and just kind of looking around gaping. I rang WIRES, our volunteer wildlife rescuers, and by the time they got back to me, it was as lively as ever. They said to keep it overnight, and if all seemed ok in the morning, let it go.

It's morning here now, and all seems ok. The tub is outside with the lid off, but I think someone's settled in.

He was probably a bit messed up by the pool chemicals. According to wikipedia, Diamond Pythons are either threatened or endangered, so good job on saving this one!

I thought Uncle San was from the United States?

Anways, good job saving the snake. And I'm glad it's ok!

No, I think he was referring to "good ol' uncle Magic Sam from france"

Yup, it's good news! :)

I misunderstood your earlier posting. I thought you were removing the snake to a wildlife rescue center to get it out of your area.
Good job on helping it recover.
We get rat snakes around here which look pretty menacing, too, but they do suck up the rodents. I like to have them around.

But wait, there's more. I got home from work yesterday afternoon, and he was still in the tub (which was still sitting open in the back yard). I thought something was wrong, and perhaps I should ring the wildlife people. But I saw that it was going to rain, so before ringing anyone I thought I should put the tub under the shelter of the BBQ. At this point, the sun was just going down, and I realised that he had probably just been chillin' for the day. Now he was ready to move.

Ever seen a snake climb a brick wall?

Long story short, I got him back into the tub (I had to make one of those wire hooks, like snake handlers use). I even got to touch him in the process, although I probably shouldn't have. Then I took the tub up to the back fence, and he was outta there...

Especially because by this time Gruso's snake might be getting close to your home. :p
