My E-mail To The Pez Company

Hello,

I am an avid and enthusiastic PEZ collector, and have recently acquired a set of the "Pink Panther" dispensers, complete with candy. When I dove into the candy for a taste, I was in for a dual-surprise. Firstly, the candy was all colorless ... each flavor was as white as chalk. Secondly, the tastes were amazing!! The lemon was nice and tart, the orange was sweet and citrus-y, and the strawberry was succulent!

I enjoyed these candies (made in Austria, according to the labels (which, BTW are more attractive than the American counterparts)) so much, that I threw out all my other packs of U.S. crap candy!! I'm appalled! Why is it that PEZ candy made for American consumption is dull in the flavor department, yet full of bright color?

I have ~46 dispensers in my current collection; that's 138 packs of candy that must be thrown away due to its inferior flavor, and it honestly disappoints me.

I'll still collect the dispensers, but as for the candies, I'm hereby boycotting the American-made junk.

Sincerely,
Name & address

So yeah. I'm also going to hammer their 800# (800-653-3134) to get some answers ... and maybe a way to cheaply import the Austrian-made candies ... I'm eating some strawberry now. mmmmmmmm!

Yay, I too used to collect pez dispensers! I have a couple limited ones that I picked up from the catalogue many years back. Some psychedelic eye, bride and groom, crystal skulls, etc :D

Pez is awesome!

edit: darn you lou! Now im eating it and cant stop! :(

TONS better. The U.S. shit tastes like sweet chalk, with no distinction between flavors. Although the cola flavor is ok. Not as amazing as the lemon, strawberry & orange from Austria, just ok.

I'm on a fucking crusade, seriously. I'm going to make them pay for cheating my taste buds all these years

Well I've obviously got nothing on you .

You have the removable plastic outfits, such as the caveman and knight pieces? They're so cool! I especially like the feet you can put on lol

Where are you getting the austrian stuff from? I'd like to give it a try...

I don't like the removeable outfit ones. I do have a couple of non-foot ones, and crystal yoda & darth vader. I mostly collect characters I like, or that have sentimental value.

Get the Pink Panther series that I just got (or any one), unopened. It comes with 3 flavors, and is made in Austria (they were never released here) I wouldn't know where to get it specifically, 'cause they were a gift from my Wife

Apparently some people like the US flavors enough for Pez to market them as such overseas. I'm no Pez enthuisiast so I don't know the difference or remeber the flavor from the last time I ate Pez.

Collect beer cans instead, they just came up with some crazy aluminum ones

So, PEZ candy has colors in the USA?
Yes. You mean PEZ candy in Europe and other parts of the world aren't coloured? xD

That's gay.
You're totally right, spot on. Lack of toxic colour additives is extremely homosexual.

I have family members who are actually allergic to food coloring. I don't understand why they think stuff needs to have a pretty color in the USA for a consumer to want to try it.

It depends on the types of coloring used. Natural coloring isnt "toxic" at all. The more popular kinds, such as colors utilized in fake fruit drinks like kool-aid, are indeed bad for you. Red #40 can cause cancer i've heard

On the subject of coloring;

... I read the ingredients in the last few packs of candy we had tucked away in a drawer. All the flavors had the same ingredients, except for the 'FD&C color & number'. I figure they use the colors to mentally trick the consumer into thinking they're tasting the flavor of the corresponding color. <_<

The Austrian-made labels have no ingredients listed, so I can't compare the two.

... the plot thickens ...
