Keyboard Backlight - User Addon

I just want to know if it is still possible with current (final user Panda's) Pandora revision to have LED's soldered to the motherboard to have a back light under the keyboard..

Also, can the current/final keyboard support a back light - Only asking as they're black rubber.

I thought of that ages ago... And of course its possible. You'd just need to work out where to get the power from..

Edit:Yeah, the rubber could be a problem.. +1

Again edit: I don't think you'd have trouble seeing the keys with the screen light though.. But it would look cool :)
 
You could add LEDs, but you wouldn't see anything :(
The keymat would have to be made of transparent rubber and the painting would have to be different.
A long time ago we discussed the possibility to use fluorescent paint for the key printings, but that was ruled out later, I suppose.
 
Look's like MWeston thought of everything! Now if we had translucent rubber keys.. But fluorescent paint on the keys would give the impression they light up anyway..

PS. What the hell's "JTAG"?

It's a programming / debugging interface commonly found on microcontroller boards (PIC / AVR).

I had seen in the past, but nothing recently..

Well I have another question someone MIGHT be able to answer... Will an LED soldered to those sexy little pads need a resister? I see a resister next to each of the 3 sets.

Edit: Hey Gruso: On the image, there is the one set of pads marked KPBL, but to the right and far left are another two sets of pads which looks the same. Are they also for backlights?

Could be! not really sure. It's silkscreened like it's for us to use, but maybe it's not. There's no reason to really, you can flash the NAND from SD anyway. It might be to flash the BIOS chip if it's not already pre-flashed. But I'm just guessing, I really have no idea. I just think JTAG is cool :D

There's a JTAG inside Robosapien Media Edition (RS-Media) which can be used to also hack the dude!

The JTAG in the Pandora might be for the bootloader, there is also a 2nd stage bootloader which it might be for. (might be called something else).
It's for the super duper power devs (Like MWeston and all the hardcores)

JTAG transfer speeds would not be very fast. It would probably has a similar speed to RS-232.
It would take a long time to transfer 500+MB to fill the NAND.

I believe those pads are for extra shoulder button mods (L2 & R2).

JTAG can be cool. With the right gear it allows you to get direct debug access to the Cortex-A8 - single stepping, breakpoints, accesing memory etc. It can be used to program flash, but as you say there is little point.

I'm sure this must have been discussed but I can't find it - does anybody know what the pinout and pitch of these pads are?

I have a feeling that the 'JTAG connector' is almost always a standard pitch and pin-out. If you buy a JTAGer you ought to be able to just plug pin1 (presumably the one with the silkscreen triangle) to pin1 etc...
