I finally did it. I passed my Border Review and I have achieved the Boy Scot Rank, Eagle. The highest rank that can be achieved in Scouting. I've been in Scouting since Cub Scouting. And I have finally made it to Eagle.

Now I must plan my Eagle Ceremony. I'm going to have in the coming month or two.

Anyways, I'm so happy now! But in shock that i made it.

Nice work man, I was in scouts up untill a few years ago, but my interest just kind of dissappeared a bit. Had an awesomme scout leader in explorers (is that 15 to 18?) He used to just let us get pissed all the time.

Am I the only one against this?
No, not the only one. The Boy Scouts of America openly discriminate against atheists, agnostics and homosexuals by disallowing them membership. For any organisation, this is disgusting; for a youth organisation it is especially abhorrent.

Scouts in England are fine as far as I know. I know mine were fine, anyone could join.

And at the young scouts age, up untill 16 ish, i don't think people that age even know if they're gay/athiest/what they believe in.

I suppose the parents/school might force certain religions on them (i was brain washed into being a catholic until I realised in sixth form that it wasn't for me)

Edit:

And is this not just stereotyping from the image a few more vocal people give off. I'm sure there's loads of members in the scouts of america that couldn't give two shits either way, whether homosexuals joined or not. I know for certain that not all christians are against homosexuals, but they are said to be.

Homosexuality is allowed under two conditions:

1. The homosexual must be the Scout Leader
2. The Scout Leader must be a pedophile.
It's not only allowed, it's a requirement!

Well, scouting is technically a religion based organization. And homosexuality is not allowed for practical reasons (boys sharing tents). I don't see what the big deal is. Boy Scouts of America is a private organization, and if the beliefs which the organization holds do not concur with your own then don't join.

What about their discrimination against women? Should every person be treated exactly the same by every organization? So they have a belief system that leaves some people out, boo hoo. I'm not pro-scouts, I'm anti-monoculture. Affirmative action makes me sick sometimes. We're not all the same, and some people want to recognize that. I don't think any tax dollars should fund scout activities, or the activities of any discriminatory organization. But I don't consider Boy Scouts a scourge for pandering to a certain subset of people. I mean, their three biggest supporters are the Mormon, Methodist, and Catholic churches. Who's surprised? A lot of people want a place for their offspring to socialize with the "right kind" of people. Sure it's all BS and religious brainwashing (To a degree. I'd say a lot of AA crap is just an attempt at public brainwashing.. one that seems to be working.) In conclusion, people are different. A lot of people are bigots and hypocrites most of the time (not just the religious people). "Strange" people will seem normal over time, and people who seem normal now will seem strange in the future. Deal with it. Pointing fingers and whining that someone is different is a hypocrites strategy. So go ahead and whip that finger around 180 degrees.

Sounds to me like boys sharing tents would be ideal and very practical for homosexuality.

Anyway, I don't really want to detract from Nightwheel's achievements - well done! Tell us about the ceremony.

The thing is that this discrimination doesn't make any sense. There's no reason for discriminating against atheists and agnostics (and rather little for discriminating against homosexuals) in the Scout organisation, except mindless bigotry. For an organisation which purports to uphold decent values and plays a huge role in shaping a large number of American children's beliefs, this is an exceedingly poor stance to have - and whilst they are well within their rights, as a private organisation, to have these conditions for membership, that does not make them right.

Regardless, very well done to Nightwheel for his achievement.

Just because somebody is gay doesn't mean they are incapable of stopping themselves from having sex with people all the time :p.

Congrats to Nightwheel!

You crack me up PoisonV.
And by the way, WarmFluffy is going to hate me for clipping that out and bringing attention to it. :)
It is really hard to not say stuff like that on the Wiz forum.

 Now how am I going to get my spluttered coffee out of my keyboard... ? :D

But Nightwheel, I'm sure there is a lot of hard work involved (was never in scouts myself) so congratulations on the dedication and don't let the detractors get you down.
