Helped Needed With Gngeo

I'm after a bit of help with my latest Cannoo and gngeo.

I'm using the latest Yoshi emulator pack, but I can't get gngeo to run. Every time, I get a message stating that all the various essential bios roms are missing from /roms/, but I have all the roms unzipped in the rom directory. I've tried bios versions from 5 different locations (including 2 from rom packs made specifically for gngeo on Wiz/Caanoo), but absolutely no joy.

I'm sure there's something obvious I'm missing because I had no such problems with gngeo with my first Caanoo, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Nekki

Check this thread...

I can generate a DAT file from my working ROMs, if it helps.

PS: The Wiz pack does not work on the Caanoo, it has cached graphics files (.gfx) which only work on the Wiz.

Hi Yoshi,

Thanks for the reply - I did see that thread, but the issue seemed different - as far as I know I have no issue with my game roms (they all worked on my previous Caanoo), but the bios files don't seem to be recognised as being present, let alone the incorrect versions.

Ok, these are the correct BIOS files (make sure the CRCs match)...

Put all these BIOS files in the /roms directory (unzipped). All game ROMs must be zipped.

Yep, perfect matches for all (I don't have the uni-bios, but that's not essential) - any other ideas?

Ok, then post a 7-Zip screenshot of a game that does not work.

And your /roms directory looks like this?

Sorry, maybe I'm not being clear - when I start up gngeo, i get an error message saying that various bios roms aren't present and then it quits - I don't get as far as a rom selector to find out if games work or not.

Yoshi Dragon said:
That is strange. It should even start without a single BIOS/ROM file (IIRC).

Ok, rename the /game/gngeo directory (to .bak or something) and copy the /game/gngeo directory again from the emu pack. Don't copy anything else and start the emulator. Does that work?

Nope, same error message -

RAGE2X v1.1
./roms/sfix.sfx bios missing
./roms/000-lo.lo.sfx bios missing
./roms/uni-bios.rom bios missing
./roms/aes-bios.rom bios missing
./roms/vs-bios.rom bios missing
./roms/usa 2slt.bin bios missing
./roms/asia-s3.rom bios missing
./roms/sp-s2.sp1 bios missing

Press any button to quit

Ok, I just reproduced it on my Caanoo.

If I just start the emu (fresh copy from the pack) without any BIOS files, I get the same error.

Then I just copy the BIOS files into /game/gngeo/roms and the emulator (or better the frontend) starts without any problems.

Do you really have all files (above) with the correct CRCs?

If you double check the content of your /roms directory, is everything like in my example (spoiler above)? Exactly same file name, same case?

The Caanoo runs Linux as OS, means file names are case sensitive.

If you still can get it to work, PM me the following output...

1. Open a DOS box (command window), in the root directory of your SD card
2. Run "dir /s > my_caanoo_files.txt"
3. Send me that file

OK, finally got this running this morning. Completely removed gngeo, put the folders back in with no bios, load fails. Added bios, load fails. Do it all again, works! I'm annoyed that I still don't know why it was failing, but at least it works now - I just have to find decent game roms because Sengoku 3 isn't working properly :-(

Thanks for all your help!

Oh, I just saw, it also complains about the UniBIOS file.

So, you need that as well.

That's most likely your problem.

PS: I just saw, the fact sheets say you just need "neogeo.zip". That's wrong, it has to be unzipped. I will correct that.

You don't need the UniBIOS, it runs perfectly well without it, despite the error message.
