Gp32 Usb Driver Won't Install On My System.

So I have this spare GP32 BLU handy, and wanted to hook it up to my PC.

The only problem is - I can't seem to get the USB driver - official or unofficial - to actually install as commanded. I do the right-click on .inf and select "Install" method, and it refreshes all the windows, giving me the impression it worked. But when I check my system32/drivers directory, the driver isn't present. I still can't get GP32 Manager to work. Nor anything else that necessitates a working USB connection. It's like it looked at the inf and did approximately bugger all with it. I even purchased the adapter and an extension cable because I suspected that a wire or two was broken in the official cable that came with the unit. It's made no difference, as you can see.

I'm using Windows XP SP3 Pro, if that's of any importance. Any suggestions?

Im going to assume that your using the stock firmware, but on the off chance you are not then depending on which fw you have you maybe able to put the gp32 in to usb hd mode which then no drivers are needed. I remember this issue coming up before for users in the past and right now i cant remember how it was dealt with. Also if you do happen to have a smc card reader then you can just format the card build the file tree and drag and drop items to the card. Jus make sure if you do go this route to use the smc formatting app that is in the archive.

Also take a look see over at the archive http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/gp32.cgi there are some drivers there also darkfader has some drivers also http://darkfader.net/gp32/#links found FireFlys page hes got some drivers listed to if i remember right lots of persons had success with them. http://users.skynet.be/firefly/gp32/index.htm

Thanks for the links, but I guess I should've been a bit more specific in my first post.

Firefly's driver was the first one I tried. When that didn't work, I tried the official Win2k one from OpenHandHelds. No dice. And then DarkFader's patched driver......... you can see where this is going, frankly.

As for firmware, erm, I made no changes to it - I'm using whatever firmware was on the device when I bought it off eBay. Not sure what codename or version number it uses (if any), but it's the one that shows a bouncing logo alongside the "GAME" and "PC-LINK" options.

Do you mean this one ?.

I havent seen that screen in ages. XD

But the good new is with that fw you can use a card reader ans it will run everything just fine. Be sure to use this http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/gp32.cgi?0,0,0,0,15,931 utility so the gp32 can read the card.
The stock usb stuff is rely shady sometimes it works sometimes it does not. Your best bet is using a card reader and then flashing the fw to an awesome one like slubmans http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/gp32.cgi?0,0,0,0,42,396 But make sure its a blu and not a blu+

Oh and trooper why does the gp32 emot not work :( gp32_console or is it just my browser?

trooper: yeah, that's the bugger! ;-D

I'll consider the card reader idea, but I thought a direct USB connection was supposed to offer a lot more functions as well somehow? Unless I got the wrong end of the stick?

As for the firmware flashing idea - is the flashing part really simple? Would it be possible to restore it back to the original firmware if I wanted to?

Umm the pclink stuff is actually much slower than a card reader, using the direct usb to gp32 is really on beneficial if you using gpDrive. So you lose nothing with a card reader and gain everything XD.

For flashing the firmware it is quite easy you copy 2 files where they need to go and then flash it by running the .fxe make sure you have fresh batteries and your good to go.

you can dump your current fw by using this utility http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/gp32.cgi?0,0,0,0,42,569 and then just use the flasher fxe to flash it back but you wont want to after using slubmans' XD. i would just to be on the safe side before you flash load up an app thats not a blu+ version to make sure yours is not a Blu+. if it turns out to be a Blu+ no problems just make sure to flash with a Blu+ bios.
