Anyone tried these Gamecube HDMI adapters? (They only work on early models with digital video out)

I see there are also HDMI converters for the Wii and they are cheaper.

Yes, I have a HDMI converter for the Wii, although I've loaned it out to the family for the time being. I found it wouldn't work with my monitor, presumably because that doesn't support HDCP. They're still available on Amazon for less than 10GBP.

I do use my Wii for all my gamecube needs these days, softmodded and using Nintendon't for Gamecube setup and ISO loading. As far as I know it can do everything my old Gamecube (in the loft) could do, except for the gameboy player (which I've never owned). At present, I'm using my Pandora connected over s-video to play gameboy games, but hopefully soon I'll be able to use my Pyra over HDMI to do the same.
 
Saw those video's on Metal Jesus Rocks YouTube channel and was very impressed with the image quality from the HDMI. I presume there is no up-scaling on the output and it's the capture device/video (captured at 480p) processing that's making them look so good at 1080p.

We use a Wii via component (official lead) and I've never been impressed with the image quality (480p up-scaled on TV) so wondered about those Wii HDMI adaptors but from the reviews I've read they don't really offer anything over component.

Other than buying an xRGB or similar is there anything that can be done to get better image quality?
 
Honestly after reading about how this guy ignored the warnings that his product would kill gamecubes, I would never buy anything he makes, even if he did supposedly fix it.
 
It does make be wonder if the port has +12V and 0V lines next to each other such that they can be bridged by a misaligned plug, it's not more Nintendo's fault than anyone else's. That this is a slightly larger box than Nintendo's plugs usually are might exacerbate the problem, but this type of thing could happen with anything in that port if the unit was knocked in just the right way.

But also I tend to think there's probably a way to revive borked gamecubes. There's probably a fuse inside the PSU which could be replaced (or just get a new power cable, which IIRC contains the PSU). If something in the GC did pop, I'd expect smoke and fumes and scorch marks on affected units, and I've not seen that in reports. Maybe there's a fuse inside the cube box too.
