This thread contained a lot of off-topic stuff, which has been moved here:

http://boards.openpandora.org/index.php/topic/12650-drama-between-kumaki-and-zxdunny-from-easy-rpg-having-nothing-but-trouble-half-solved/

Please keep this thread on topic! (_wb_)

The subject says it all.

First time I ran this from my desktop, I got a Pickle Launcher.  I closed down, as I had only run it in order to create the Appdata Folder.

Now...I went and got the RTP 2000 like you were supposed to.  I extracted it all in the right place in the appdata folder like I was supposed to.

Now what do I get?  A big bloody nothing, that's what!!

Every time now I try to launch the program from the desktop, my screen blinks once and that's it.  Nothing else happens.

No Pickle Launcher, no nothing.

Has ANYONE managed to get this thing working?  If so, help, please?  I can't make it work!

I just have a couple of RPGM2K games I want to play.

I don't need the 2003 stuff, and can't find it out there, anyway.

The only place I can find 2003 stuff is

A - in foreign languages or

B - only available if you also download someone's "installer" which I do not want, those things are like viruses that permeate your computer system, and start screwing up all your settings!  I just want ONE FILE...not an "installer"

So I don't care about the 2003 stuff, that doesn't even have to work, as far as I am concerned, as long as the 2000 stuff does.

Please help.

Thank you.

I can try.  I'm not sure I can get in there.

OK, let me see if I can manage to cut and paste what is in there...to here.

I have to bumble around to try to figure out how.

I think I have what you are looking for...

Now...because it DID work once...I decided to wipe out the file and try to run the thing again, so you can see what I'm getting now that it does not even run.

Looks lije the same thing as above. But not sure.
Anyway, now you also have a clean file log to look at.

Edit: Assistance not needed :)

Error's coming from Picklelauncher it seems, but beyond reading the error message I can't debug it any further from here. Calling pickle back to the thread!

By the way, that log gets recreated from scratch before every run, so those two logs you posted should be identical (and appear to be to me).

As for the netquette issue, unless Kumaki edited the post after Milkshake posted, I only see one bolded word in it, which is perfectly acceptable to me. And I personally prefer ASCII shorthand over having to learn and enter HTML myself, being an old usenet refugee. Or in other words, SHOUT IF YOU NEED TO, just as long as you ain't dissing people's hard work.

No, I did not alter it.

two places, capitals are used for emphasis.

"anyone" and "one file"

The other places in caps are because they are abbreviations

RPGM2K = RPG Maker 2000

RTP 2000 is a file you need to make this work - RTP = Run Time ??  not sure what the P means.

But caps were not excessively used there, I did not think.  But some folks seem dead determined to nit=pick everything I do, just because I'm an idiot with these things.

Anyway, if I can get some help getting Easy RPG to work, I would be glad of the assistance.

Ah, fair enough. The old 'split across two lines' trick caught me out again!

FWIW, I just ran a picklelauncher-based emu and checked the pndrun.out, and it's almost identical to your log file except missing the 'Error:' line and the following line. IMO Picklelauncher could really do with some more explicit logging.

Well, unfortunately, because I'm not a tech person, this honestly does not help me.

What I really need is for someone to guide me step-by-step, exactly how to install this thing correctly so that it works.

Oh, absolutely. I don't think there's anything helpful that can really be added until Pickle wakes up again unfortunately, unless someone else who's had this problem with picklelauncher arrives. Hence the FWIW (for what it's worth), I guess.

OK, I am now back to a clean install.

I wiped out the appdata folder completely.

It now launches the PickleLauncher...like it used to.

But whenever I put anything in the appdata folder, it suddenly doesn't launch anymore.

Now, these are the install instructions, directly from Repo.

This is a alpha build of easyrpg so not everything works in it.
You need the Timidity Midi Installer to play midi files:
http://repo.openpandora.org/?page=detail&app=timidity-midi-installer-19487
Put RPG 2000 RTP in APPDATA/easyrpg/data/rtp/2000
Put RPG 2003 RTP in APPDATA/easyrpg/data/rtp/2003
You'll also need this in the same folder as the game you want to play:
https://easy-rpg.org/downloads/Font.zip
Now...

I have installed Timidity...like it says.

I got a zip file which was the 2000 RTP

I am installing this now in appdata/easyrpg/data/rtp/2000 like it says

The file you download, by the way, is zipped.

You unzip it and get an .exe file.

You run that file, and it asks you where to unpack the files.

So I directed it to appdata/easyrpg/data/rtp/2000

just like it says to do.

This has now been done.

Now, because I have no RPGM2K3 games, I don't really care about the 2003 RTP.

I can't find the file anywhere, anyway.

The only places to find it...it is in foreign language...

or it requires you to download some stupid file downloader program - which I never do, because those things are like viruses that come in and alter all your settings on your computer.

For one file, I do not want to deal with it.  Especially when I'm not evven sure the file in is English...and since I really have no desire to play RPGM2K3 games anyway.

The two I want are both RPGM2K.

SO...I have unpacked the RTP like it said to do.

Now, all that is left is the font.zip file they mention...in the folder of the game you want.

Which I will do...once I get the rest of this working.

But that should not cause the Pickle Launcher to not even launch.

So now...from this clean install, I will try again, and see what happens...

Now, the Pickle Launcher DOES come up!

Maybe I am getting somewhere!!

OK....now...I put the two games I wanted...for the moment...on my SD Card 2

Trying top run them from there...results in this:

Error:

Couldn't find database file.

EasyRPG Player will close now.

Press any key to exit...

You press a key and it exits.

Then it DOES launch again.

So my problem now...is likely the location of where I put the games, they probably also need to be in the appdata file in order to find all the other files needed.

Going to try moving them now.

OK...got one of the two games to fire up.

The other is missing, or unable to locate a file it needs somewhere.

I think I may have solved this thing...

Looking back, I think I know what I did now, too...and an easy thing to fall into..

I installed the RPT 2000 Version 1.32

rather than Version 1.0

Doing some reading, I found that 1.32 has to be installed AFTER 1.0 if you're going to do it at all- it just extends some of what was already in 1.0

SO...if you install just 1.32 like I did...you are not getting a lot of the files you're supposed to have, and hence my problem.

Now if I can just get the other game to work...I have ideas on this.

Will post success here if it comes...and then I think I might make a nice, neat article on this, just so that others will be able to do this.

Has ANYONE managed to get this thing working? If so, help, please? I can't make it work!

I just have a couple of RPGM2K games I want to play.
What RPGM2K games? I might have time to try this out tonight and would like some good games to test with.

Well, one you might have a hard time finding as it is an indie fan game.

the other was a remix of Dragon Warrior 1.
I spent some time searching and found this site for "RM2K" games. Are the ones you are trying to run to be found there? http://www.queenscourt.org/othergames.php

If you link me to the games you are trying to run, I can try to help.
Thank you, klapse.  When I get the chance, I'll look at that page and let you know.

(See, I do not have a problem with other people, when they treat me kindly, I respond kindly in turn)

I had a look at that page...none of the games I am talking about are there.

I could send you zip files of the games I am talking about.  PM me your email address.

That is easier than looking for them on the web again, lol

This did not help.

Capital letters don't seem to matter.

But I started with a clean install, and noticed something different.

the pickle launcher starts at

/mnt/utmp/easyrpg/TestGame

so, should the RTP be in appdata or in this mnt/utmp/easyrpg?

I do not know

Also, should other games be installed there?

Again, I do not know.

I am going to install the RTP into appdata/data/rtp/2000 like the Repo says to and try the test game again.
