Looks quite interesting IMO. I'd probably find that if I was hooking it up to the TV, I won't be holding it in my hand (I don't have HDMI cables that long), so then using the USB port with a wireless keyboard/mouse combo or bluetooth controller would be the result.

It's nice to finally see a high-quality, professionally produced CM3 handheld, but why on earth did they go to all this trouble and not include analog sticks, a dedicated menu button, and L2/R2 buttons? The amount of extra work/money would have been trivial, but the extra functionality would have been significant. As it is, they may as well have gone with a RPi0, since the controls on this system limit you to consoles that can be emulated just fine on the weaker/cheaper SBC.

Such a shame - they were so close.

If you were to do that though, what's the benefit over buying an off the shelf rPi3 and case and rolling your own retroarch sd card or something? If you're not going to use the screen or the buttons on the device, I don't quite see the point in buying them, although I suppose this does at least allow you to continue your savestates on the move.

I never said that, sorry if i wasn't clear enough.
I'm coming at this from the same as a laptop, gpd pocket or pyra, where it's a portable in general, but when you're at home you wire it like a desktop. In which situation, you won't care that the hdmi port is on the side, because you're not holding it, add you'll be on external screen and keyboard/most combo
