yeah, it occured to me..

When everything is sorted and my pandora arrives through the post.. well I hope it's not just a unit in bubble wrap and that's it.

hopefully this thing is gonna be successful enough to be on store shelves and a flashy box would be essential there...

Now i don't know how much thought has been put to this already, but I suspect it's been left to the last because.. well I can't see it being prioritised over, getting LCDs sorted etc.. and rightly so.

This is a community sourced project so.. why not source some box art for the release?

There would have to be descisions made about:

1) what logos and such appear on the outside (obviously pandora, but what about arm, powervr, the infamous penguin)

2) Display the specs? (like they are on the openpandora main page perhaps)

3) Actual box size.

4) material, is it worth the added cost of having a real nice wooden hand crafted piece of furniture, or leave it as a printed-on cardboard box with foam spacers inside for protection. or more importantly, what point in between the two extremes is chosen

any thoughs/ideas?

My thoughts:

1) I'd have all the logos on it I could, badges look cool:)
2) Yep, but they'd have to be presented in a way that FIK people know what they mean.
3) I don't think the box should be much bigger than the unit, but I do think that the optional extras (wasn't there a carry case I forget) should have space in the box available. So, hole for the unit, hol for the bag and perhaps a couple of holes for SD cards.
4) Nothing that puts the cost up much, but it can't be tacky. I'd say a hard card fold-open laminated thing, a bit like the boxes for PC motherboards and a laminate paper slide/wrap that has all the art detail.

Again, I can't stress size enough here, the box has to be small (not too small so as to offer no protection tho) because this is an ultra compact device being sold. giving it out in london bus sized boxes is gonna nerf that notion somewhat;)

sorry if this has been brought up and decided apon already ;)

No, you'll receive the unit in a plain white box, as discussed already in many other numerous threads.

If the Pandora makes it onto retail shelves, there will be a colorful sleave to put over the white box.

didn't they say that it's not set in stone yet?
that it's likely that it'll just come in a plain box, but that they could work out a better box if it doesn't interfere with other important things?

yes, that's the construction I figured...

So how about the colourful sleeve? surely people would find it fun to send in some art ideas, that's what I'm getting at;)

There are already multiple threads on the topic. No need for another.
