Well, IMHO the biggest problem with both devices is that they are constantly delayed. It is worse - compared to Pyra's "2 months away" TM - because of IGG terms they announce 'estimated shipping' month - just to postpone it again and again.... and again. They are shipping some units - so...
Thanks!
Better to have both sides of a story ....
Though my PPkbd is in the drawer for months now - I still respect a lot Pine64 for what they are doing and their attitude.So re-reading Martin's post - there are at least two concerns that do not seem to be addressed:
and
Well, my PP beta edition was with Manjaro preinstalled out-of-the-box. Two days constant effort trying to check for system updates / update built-in repositories. On the third day installed Mobian that still has /quite some/ issues - but was fundamentally 'working' ....
One of the first 'regular backer' first impressions review.
Generally positive, highlights the advantages of AS, I am pleasantly surprised by the comments for screen quality.
Hope to get mine in 'less than two months' :D
I found stylus-input to be the easiest way for commenting / editing on-the-go. And in many cases it is easier to doodle / draw something rather than type it (even with a hw kbd and even on a small screen like Treo-s).
Now, if it is just the usual capacitive stylus - no matter 5 € or 500 € - it...
Ooooh - and regarding the battery on the Priv - I bought a replacement one last spring; found a technician, willing to replace it - but due to lack of reliable complete backup - still have not risked to upgrade .... Just proving why recovery / Titanium backups matter IMO.
Well, you were my inspiration to get Priv in the first place ;) and overcome my hesitation due to lack of root. NetGuard took care for 'call mothership sh*t ' xD
Personally, I don't really care about 5G and CPU specs, but you are right that 'better-is-better'. It will be great to have some more...
After discovering that PinePhone with hardware keyboard is not my solution for 'always on, always connected device with hardware keyboard' - and not expecting to get :p&|a: in 2 Months TM :) - the quest for successor of Blackberry Priv continues.
The main reasons I am considering upgrade from...
Well, after couple of weeks with the hardware keyboard attachment to the PinePhone (PPkbd) – here are some impressions and musings.
First – briefly – about my usage scenario. The main reasons I want a hw kbd for my ‘always on, always connected’ device are:
* instant messaging communication...
One can speculate that they have the keyboards, but not in the retail packaging / documentation / etc.
Or maybe they just want to avoid the New Years rush :)
They also made available for order some other accessories as well:
* PinePhone Wireless Charging case
* PinePhone LoRa case
* PinePhone Fingerprint reader
.
And they started offering protective cases.
Shipping should start January 10th.
Happy, happy New Year :p&|a:
Well, according to this message at the Pine64 forums it is still "coming this month".
Of course, even if they start shipping it tomorrow - I won't expect to have it this year somewhere in Europe ..... :(
