[Project] Vintage film viewer as RetroPie

You can find slide viewers here, but most of those are ugly compared to this one.

    World News Thread (Politics,whatever)

China keeps censoring the West just by having that apparently enticing market. It's a similar story for the Marvel movies. What else? Edit: Mitsubishi seem to have some sense at least. It's sad to see that the movie business ist just that. It's not about expression, art, stories or whatever -...

I had a little Aloe Vera plant. This rugged little thing strived. You don't have to water those regularly, they're frugal (is that the proper word?). And then I watered it too much and it started to rot. Oh well. Got a few Tamarillo seeds, will try to get something going in spring. Also many...

What are you playing this weekend/these days?

Just bought Prey 2017 on sale for 7,5 €. This'll tide me over until one of the System Shocks come out, remake or 3. And boy am I looking forward to the latter.

Yeah he's good. Reminds me of George Carlin a bit. Love his stuff. I get my weekly dose from Heute Show and Quer. I used to like heute show a lot more, still better than nothing. Quer on the other hand is bloody great. Not to forget Die Anstalt.

    Diagnosing a Dead Laptop

It works now after desoldering the battery. It's a wee bit weird that it comes on - fan and LED - and goes off after about 5 seconds. Then it starts again properly and stays on. It seems to be unhappy with something. Oh well I'm sure the owner will be happy she doesn't need to buy a new one...

We don't distinguish less, there's different terms for feces. And the "knows better *wink*" is a reference to German politics. If you follow political satire, you'll get it.

My colleague just preordered a cybertruck. She has a construction company on the side and was all ears when she heard about the maximum towing capacity. It is meant to replace a Ford Ranger which uses about 12 liters Diesel for 100km. I think the dual engine variant is the smartest choice for...

    Diagnosing a Dead Laptop

I worded that weird; she spun it around for another person to look at. Highly doubt that this user has even heard of BIOS. She uses the machine basically only for two websites. Didn't think about disconnecting the battery either, thanks!

FFS: I've been trying to grab the darned 1px borders of XFCE windows for years. Been modifying themes to widen the borders. Just now I learned that you can use Alt + RMB to resize windows.

    Diagnosing a Dead Laptop

I haven't tried mashing DEL etc., worth a try! And I haven't tried connecting it to a display over HDMI. Motherboard and CPU are what I've been thinking, too. Still weird that a slow vertical movement would cause such damage. 1574444033 !!! Holy moly. I'll definitely look at the underbelly to...

    Anyone going to 36c3?

I'll stick to https://www.youtube.com/user/mediacccde/videos There's so much content. Leipzig left a good impression with me. Although I didn't get to see much of the city. Was there on an automobile related thing in 2011. Anecdote: we had lunch at McDonald's. Colleague tripped when stepping...

    Diagnosing a Dead Laptop

I've been asked to take a look at a dead laptop, an acer Aspire e17. According to the user it abruptly stopped working when she did a 180 with it on the table, for another person to look at the screen. The power cable wasn't connected at the time. It's 2 - 3 years old and looks like new. When...

@matzesu What I think FBnil is saying: "it's old and made by a renowned quality brand". This device holds sentimental value for you. It's your grandpa's. I wouldn't give it away personally. -- Today I learned about light pens and light guns. -- And this poor thing had a rough day. I keep...

Colors. Remember these colors? :D Thanks @Binky for preserving Asmo's renders! I dig the humor in those renders :) I feel like that's not all of them. Weren't there more of those?

    What have you bought recently?

A DVI to HDMI adapter. Moved a user's dual screen setup from an old tower PC to a Deskmini case running a modern Athlon. In order to support local business and be somewhat more ecological I bought one from MediaMarkt. Their website, interestingly enough, quoted an availability within 2 - 3...

My experience was similar. Those little things are no daily drivers. Make sure to have a look at Atomic Pi or the UP! board, LattePanda, Odroid-H2, maybe even UDOO bolt. Or... slap a Ryzen APU and some RAM in a DeskMini case and have a proper little computer.
