RetroFlag GPi Case - A 'GBZero' that isn't janky

So... Thought I'd try something, considering everyone else seems to think this is the bees knees. I had been trying rechargeable AA batteries, which as most will know, only output 1.2V, and not 1.5V that regular batteries do, so i went and bought some regulars, and it will actually boot now. As...

    Analogue Pocket FPGA Gameboy/Color/Advance announced

No, @levi and @Grench were talking about there being some sort of SoC in there to read the SD card. I was trying to explain (badly), that FPGA's can autoconfigure from firmware on a flash device (without the need of an external flashing unit, beit a SoC or CPU), and then that firmware will...

    Analogue Pocket FPGA Gameboy/Color/Advance announced

Yes, probably just my bad typing. Like I said, I was trying to do multiple things at the same time, so it probably was only half-english :) Not sure I'm following you, sorry? Are you saying their FPGA hardware layout fully knows what SD card blocks to read? To me it'd seem more likely that...

    Analogue Pocket FPGA Gameboy/Color/Advance announced

Aye, probably very similar to this one: https://www.fpga4fun.com/SD1.html But they'll need something to drive the protocol, and that'll probably run on some sort of CPU within their FPGA design Sorry for my mashy posts, I was on my mobile and doing other things at the same time

    Analogue Pocket FPGA Gameboy/Color/Advance announced

Seems quite the sentiment on EtaPrime's YouTube post. I'm kind of in agreement too. Though it's tempting from the handheld fpga point of view alone

    Analogue Pocket FPGA Gameboy/Color/Advance announced

In addition, wiring up an SD card reader in FPGA is simpl, but don't think about the fpga accessing like Linux. The most likely way this'll work is that whichever CPU they choose from the firmware and give that access to the SD pins, and they'll effectively write an sd card driver for that CPU...

    Analogue Pocket FPGA Gameboy/Color/Advance announced

I doubt it'll have any low end CPU/soc. Most FPGA chips can auto configure from an onboard flash device. My NexysDDR certainly can, and the TurboChameleon had only fpga chips

    Analogue Pocket FPGA Gameboy/Color/Advance announced

My guess, with the dual FPGA, is that there'll be a primary FPGA, which has the core firmware for gaming, cart, screen, input etc. and will be able to load other cores from the SD to the second FPGA; so you can't really brick the system on a non-official core.

Fair point... In fact, that page even has this quote

    Analogue Pocket FPGA Gameboy/Color/Advance announced

Well, seems GB/GBC/GBA carts out of the box, and it also lists microSD, so I'm guessing you're not restricted to physical carts. If somebody ports NeoGeo Pocket Colour, I'll especially be interested. I like the fact they seem fairly open about letting people develop FPGA cores for it too, so the...

We need more drama. So here's another video.

You have to sign up to the Pyra Kernel mailing list if you want to see this sort of information. It's not the sort of stuff mailed out to the general public

    Share your projects

More useless projects that I'll probably never finish: Fantasy computer (that I kinda wanted to build with FPGAs later on) Metal Rain (an artillery game with some unique mechanics) I was hoping that given how I've tried to keep the mechanics of Metal Rain simple I'd have got further than I...

    AMD B450 Motherboard for Linux

It's fan art of Last Ninja 2, which is why I quoted spud42's comment (which said "LN2", and that was the first thing that came to my mind). So I wasn't just posting off-topic nonsense, though I guess to many it wasn't very obvious... BTW, the image is also a link to the Last Ninja Archives...

    GPD Pocket

Yeah, that's the problem with places like Gearbest for me, it's not like you can take it back with a receipt; and I don't imagine you get much in the way of a "warranty period", though I haven't checked. Good call on ED having batteries in stock, not even touched my Pocket since, so need to get...

    CPU Boards & Prices

That's impossible to say. It would unlikely cost a much as another machine, but it depends on the price of the soc used on the new board. But if nobody buys the machine with the omap, there won't be any upgrade boards anyway...
