AFAIK you have to run some command line to enable the USB, its not broken just not enabled. again, if i recall correctly this was to help with power saving. A quick search around for enabling external wifi will help you find the topic i think

i was in the same position as you, luckliy when i was waiting first time i was able to afford to buy a one nubber and that satiated my thirst and i have been over the moon ever since. well that is until the new one arrived and well.. sorry, salt/wounds etc.

i suspect "batch 1" and "batch 2" are managed in the same way. i dont know abour pricing as its so long ago i cant remember.
However suffice to say (it wont come as any consolation to people still waiting) that units are being shipped out by Craig and his merry (and might i add excellent)...
i ordered on day one (30/09/2008) then bought a single nubber and gave up my place that first day order place in the queue to a developer to move to a later date as i already had one. my second has now arrived
i hadn't upgraded and although i had given up my batch 1 order for a batch2 (i presume it was v early batch 2) i got mine last week and she is beautiful
I don't know what my queue number was but my second batch pandora arrived to complement my first batch one on Saturday

Be wary of buying a tiny wifi stick, check the various software libraries as there is a known working chipset. the ones that i have, have a chipset that needs some fiddling to get going that may be beyond the average user (and me).
