The Pandora is using the ARM Cortex-A8 processor. That's not the same as ARM8. The Cortex-A8 is the successor of ARM11 which is several generations ahead of ARM8 and ARM9 :)
That's the i-station UDIC, an electronic dictionary. The thing I like about it is the 4.3" swiveling LCD screen, which can be flipped around. Who knows, maybe in Pandora 2? ;)
Thanks. About the significance, I gave a long explanation a few pages back, with the deeper thoughts behind it. The simplest way to look at it is as the planet Saturn with the moon crest of Pandora behind it. Pandora is one of the shepherd moons of Saturn :)
As can bee seen in the youtube video it's in solid metal.
Edit: Dubya' beat me to posting the video link. This thread is exploding :)
Ok, I'll post another design variant then.
Changes done:
- New font
- Black analog pads
- Darker text on the keyboard
- Overall contrast and brightness...
I really like your designs, especially the black ones. I don't know if it's intentional but they feel like they are from an old video game. Very nostalgic, and it makes me want to go back in time to play on my Colecovision again :)
Well I gave you my thoughts behind it. The logo I made is more about feelings than direct logical connections to Pandora and its use (I presume you wanted something as direct and logical as a Box...no such luck in this case).
I designed the logo around a few keywords; femininity, elegance...
I'm not too sure about the logo, but I didn't feel like making another box. There are plenty of box suggestions already and good ones too :)
So I thought about making an eye design instead. Something with antiquity and elegance in mind. I just went with that ;)
That shoebox with bright eyes inside kinda resembles the idea I had a couple of days ago. I never got around to finishing it though:
Well... the idea wasnt really a shoebox...more like a big powerful space ship
Thanks for the heads up. From the pictures it looks like size and positioning of the controls are pretty much molded exactly after the gp2x's. Not exactly ideal for my hands at least. I can't use the X or B buttons for any length of time without putting severe strain on the large thumb muscle...
Actually, I'm also a bit concerned about this. On the GP2X I always found that the buttons were too close to the edge of the unit.
To use the B button meant I had to squash my thumb against my hand in an uncomfortable position and pretty soon it would start to hurt. The only way I could avoid...
Both SD slots in front and the cable connectors in the back. Lots of cables hanging from the front would just be in the way.
I would prefer a volume wheel simply because a slider would make small volume adjustments a bit tricky. The range on a slider is much shorter than on a wheel. So you get...
Is this the "wishful thinking depository"? ;) I might as well post one of my old designs too :P
...And in case anyone missed it I also made a quick touch up on the the current pandora design. This was just an attempt to make it look less geekish ;)
Just another suggestion. It sounds like a lot people are disappointed with how it looks. (I know. Too late for this really but...) ...You could try to make it less square. Unless the corner areas of the unit are critical for the design I would try to round them off some. The unit would look less...
