    It's the keyboard layout.

There are two shift keys. One happens to be repeated(with a different keycode but identical keysym, maybe) on the shoulder button. As for being short on keys, this inevitably occurs because these symbols { [ ] } \ | ; : ' " < > , . / ? which should've had Fn/Meta level priority first, but do...

Here's v3.1b. Should also satisfy that "balanced between coding and text entry" thing.

    It's the keyboard layout.

That's correct. If I were Swedish I'd have to remember å was placed by moi on Fn + L.  I thought it best not to stockpile too many things into the layout since nearly all of us will only need a handful of them at any given time. Thanks ible. Underscore isn't too far from the thumbs but we could...

Another Revision(although I'm still fond of 3.0).    { } and [ ] pairs have good locations, as well as =. Reluctantly, ? could move down to the X key again, like on Pandora, so = - + _ could sashay to the left, as was contemplated in the first post.  The Acute might be the only diacritic dead...

Will this "education" you and Neelix talk of involve a large T.V. screen in a dark room with some hard paddling and gummi bear rewards?   I don't want the old or new user to be subjugated to "triggergate". I want the device to work without this constraint.

In Dutch we also need ü and ö for Dutch words like "reünie", "vacuüm", "coöperatie", "coördineren", "zoölogie" (ä only for loanwords like "salonfähig"), and ê for words like "enquête", "gêne", ç for words like "reçu", "façade", "Brabançonne" (the name of the national anthem in Belgium, where...

    It's the keyboard layout.

Thanks to Wikipedia I made the hopefully accurate list below for all these specific language orthographies. Every one of them passed with my v3.0 layout with the assumption that the user isn't hopping from one nationality to another. The exceptions, in only a few cases, are the "very rarely"...

    It's the keyboard layout.

ED also said my original layout has - + and = too close to the middle. Fortunately, my latest ameliorates his minor gripes in his opening post. As for diacritics, as I've discussed, some kind of box or underline to any inclusive dead Circumflex, Grave, and Acute should suffice for our needs.

    It's the keyboard layout.

Your layouts change hourly. Hard to keep track of them when they aren't concurrently posted in the Final Keyboard Layout Proposals thread which you linked(and where mine is also located BTW). I dislike where you have underscore, the F11 and F12 pair, and I really don't like that the main...

    It's the keyboard layout.

Okay, that's the definitive one then. Really didn't know for sure anymore. As for the recurring discussion about Tab, a multitude have voiced strong approval for a dedicated Tab key.

I'm partial to the latest as well because I know it will work. :)    Anyone know which is the true favored layout now from the compromises team? Lost after so many revisions from them.

    It's the keyboard layout.

Version 3.0. Removed the DOSBox compatibility layer symbol set from my 2.1 layout(though they are still attendant here). Added three of the most important dead key diacritics as I see it on Fn + u, n, and m. Shown underlined as they may be on the actual keycaps(like here) they are Dead...

Calm down. I'm taking what ED said as what ED wants which carries significant weight since he is the guy making the device and is whom we will be buying it from.

    It's the keyboard layout.

I think it's time we reacquaint ourselves with ED's initial post as some of these "compromise" layouts have diverted from his opinions, which I think carry a lot more weight toward the final layout then they are being credited for. Do what you like though.

    It's the keyboard layout.

Although I'd rather we duplicate these "elsewhere" keys ~ { } | _ + : " ? before, since DOSBox will do this automatically, as it's done at Shift + Fn on the Pandora: http://pandorawiki.org/DOSBox#Keyboard, it doesn't matter when it happens in the chain. In your today layout we wouldn't, but it's...

    It's the keyboard layout.

Yes, that's much better. Possibly migrate ; and : to Meta + , and . so ' and " can be on the right(like B-Zar has them). Give some of these symbols their unseen DOSBox compatibility pairings, and add in that Super Meta key I was talking about to the left side where Meta is now(move Shift to...

    It's the keyboard layout.

Maybe you could jetison the Ñ(that was on the N key) and use this spot for something of more importance, since { } and [ ] are too far inward for comfort?

    It's the keyboard layout.

I know and I'm not saying you can't press two keys at once for say a Tab key, on the Pandora, but I am saying it will grow old really fast for that many symbols(nine by my count) for other people.

    It's the keyboard layout.

Maybe move Backslash and Pipe to J which allows you to slide the other pairs in that row one key to the right. Not a fan though of where comma and period are hidden or Tab but it is manageable. Two keyboard Meta's is a nice touch.  :) Even though the symbols are compressed over to the right...
