Absolutely! libpnd is always scanning for changes using inotify, it doesn't matter where they come from.
A removed sd card is actually pretty much the same to libpnd as rm -rf /mnt/sdX/ .

Also the reasoning for choosing ISO as th "fs" is that its universally supported on next to any os and thus makes it easy to manage for users while sqash/cramfs etc would be more complicated on windows/osx, and it is faster for random access as well and has the least overhead.

thats only true for alsa emulated oss which doesn't support mixing of any kind(without aoss).
OSS4 has full software and hardware mixing, even for alsa emulation.
