You need much more than 16MB for a debian chroot (more like 200MB just for the basic stuff). Also, make sure you have a stable internet connection and that for the distro you choose anything but lenny.
The bios with this emulator (openMSX I assume) is quite irritating. I would recommend the Panasonic FS-A1GT bios. It has the full 512K of ram and works nicely with most games (tested with Metal Gear 1, 2, and bubble bobble). You need a fs-a1gt_firmware.rom and a fs-a1gt_kanjifont.rom
What most people don't understand about android is that a lot of stuff still uses native C/C++ *.so libraries, including World of Goo. Java is just used to load said native library.
Its commercial and non open source so you would have to contact 2DBoy to either port it themselves or request just the source and not the data files so someone like Pickle could port it like he did with vvvvvv.
Are there any error messages after the line "[ START ]--- Starting the application (./run.sh) ----------"?
The only errors that should appear are "ERROR: UpdateRect W was out of bounds"
