That just shows how little you know about actual game development. The audio and video is still stored compressed because of disk space and load times. It is far quicker to load or stream a compressed audio file than an uncompressed WAV. The audio would most likely be MP3, OGG or ADPCM...
Thank him for the dis-information.
Why do you think you have to remove the batteries before using a power adaptor? I've been using a 3V 1.5A power adaptor for over a year now and I still have the original batteries installed. Yes, that's right, the original batteries that the GP2X came with...
Aside from the current rating being way too low, you would also have to confirm the plug is the correct polarity. The GP2X requires centre (or tip) negative.
The breakout box is just that. A breakout box. It takes the inputs and outputs that the GP2X exposes via the EXT interface and provides connectors for them. It does not add features.
It is a shame it only supports JTAG over the parallel port. Many new PCs like my new Intel Core 2 Duo do not have a parallel port at all, making that feature as useful as a condom to the Pope.
I don't think it is feasible. It does rely heavily on accelerated 3D graphics, so putting it onto a system that has no decent 3D support is not going to be a happy road to travel down.
It will be an overclocked version.
I believe that all new GP2Xs are MkII and have been for a while.
As the site says, the Power Pack version is the same as the Value Pack, i.e. it will come with Firmware 2.0.
There are only black GP2Xs available at the moment.
The top picture on the info...
A long is the same size as an int. What you need is a long long, or an int64, for the intermediate result.
Something like:
long long result = a * b;
return (int)(result >> PRECISION);
#define PRECISION 8
#define DOUBLE_FACTOR ((double)(1 << PRECISION))
For all those places where you hard-coded 256. Replace with DOUBLE_FACTOR and if you change the precision later, it all just works.
operator int() { return fix >> PRECISION; }
operator double() { return fix /...
Ahh. That is the next version, with 1GB RAM (was 512MB) and 40GB HDD (was 30GB). I couldn't find any information on the availability of that version here in Aus. The US version also has wireless internet through the Cingular network in addition to wifi and bluetooth.
There is no disk drive in the device. An external CD or DVD drive would have to be connected via USB. That might make booting from a CD interesting. I have not checked out the BIOS options yet, though it must be possible because a recovery CD is supplied with the device.
The last time I used...
Everything is pretty much standard hardware as far as I can tell. It uses Intel integrated graphics, an Intel wifi chip (for which I know there are Linux drivers available). The only thing you might have trouble with are the two cameras.
The simple answer is... because I can. :) The long answer is... having the full capabilities of a PC, it could be used for GP2X dev work. Put the thing in the supplied dock and add a USB keyboard, USB mouse and VGA monitor and you have the equivalent of a desktop PC.
