Looks like VGA Planets to me. We had a pretty cool VPL game running with some guys from school back in the 90's. Since none of us had internet access we exchanged the turns on floppy disks. Fond memories. :)
One thing to keep in mind about x86 CPUs: you'd still need a BIOS. In one of the older threads ED said that they'd need to write their own since the off-the-shelf modules from Intel would be too big (check here). I don't know if that's still valid with the Cherry Trail CPUs, but I'd be surprised...
So GPU support to decode videos is very unlikely to happen atm. That's okay for me since even on desktop systems gpu-vide-decoding is not always enabled (I have very fond memories of trying to enable hardware decoding on my AMD E350 based netbook :D ). But at least there should be a...
Here are two more Acid tunes I've made in the past few weeks. The first one is a bit more aggressive, the second one more relaxed.
I really like this one! :)
edit: hmmmmm... somehow my last two posts were merged automatically... strange...
I've just watched the video and I have to say that it looks fine to me. Of course it'd be great if the Pyra got a proper video driver to decrease the cpu load. Thanks again for your replies, everyone! :)
Thanks for the quick replies! I haven't watched the video yet since I'm on the Pandora atm. But I hope there will be improvement on this with the proper video driver in the future.
One thing that keeps me wondering is the quality of video playback (720p/x264 to be precise) since this is something I intend to use the Pyra for. On all Linux systems I've tried it so far this always comes with quite a bit of page-tearing. So it'd be great if ED could try this on the prototype.
One of the reasons I backed the Pyra is ED's great support. In case the Pyra will need repairs I know ED will not make a big fuss about it. Even after warranty is over I can be sure he'll repair the device for a very fair price. Also I assume that spare parts will be available for quite a long...
The status of my preorder is the same as yours, with the order being placed at about 0:30. So far I'm not worried, since there were so many orders placed within the first few hours that I bet ED has to go through quite a number of mails. I'll wait until the end of the week, maybe then I'll...
According to this link Intel will most likely keep the Core-M line of processors. I think that's fine enough, because in both cases (Atom and Core-M) the question remains how to get the heat out of the Pyra. So I don't see how killing the Atom line will influence the chance of getting a x86 cpu...
After taking a lot of time for careful consideration I have backed this thing. What sold it to me was the x86 cpu. In the best case this'll enable me to throw Steam onto it & run some of the Indie games I have accumulated over the years (mostly via humble bundle). Also I have no doubt it'll...
Hey Ed!
Nice to see things are progressing smoothly! One thing that immediately came to my mind when you talked about the weight was: how about the balancing of the Pyra? To me, the Pandora seemed to be very top-heavy, making it a bit uncomfortable of me to use it. So it'd be great if the...
That's sad... but thanks for testing shashlik for me! It'd be great if this would reach a level stable enough to run on the Pandora, too.
Concerning Plasma 5... a few days ago i wanted to testdrive the latest Kubuntu (15.10 I think it was). It installed fine enough but when I wanted to log in...
