    WM & networking question

I guess you could have a look at the Openbox PND to see how it goes about switching to that windowmanager. As for controlling wifi - if you're talking about the configuration, SuperZaxxon comes with nmcli, so using the Network Manager GUI is not required. If you just want to switch it on and...

    Final small Pandora batch...

    Update SuperZaxxon v1.74

LED control for the Wifi LED seems incomplete: The disabled LED turns back on when coming back from suspend (power switch flick). Nice work nevertheless, thank you (again)!

[Roadmap] Using the Cortex M4 CPUs

Are we talking about the "IPU subsystem" M4s in the "ISS megacell" on the block diagram? I'm probably rehashing things that everyone knows, but since I haven't really thought about those up to now: It seems that TI planned that as companion for the DSP, to do image processing for a camera...

Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

For those people who were touting the Allwinner SoCs as an alternative: Backdoor in all devices which run Allwinner Linux Kernel 3.4

What a great start - prepare for the next level!

While Cortex-A15 supports LPAE to address up to 1TB of memory (see http://lwn.net/Articles/415190/), I don't think it's being used much, if at all (it's said to have an performace hit). No idea how much of the 4GB will get lost to things-that-are-not-memory requiring chunks of the address space...

Able to upgrade not just the speed but manufacturer of CPU?

Performance-wise, the OMAP5 should be perfectly fine. Negative comments about Cortex-A15 have mostly been about their peak power consumption when under heavy load. Pity it will be hard to make any good use of the M4 cores, too - later ARM SoCs with the big.LITTLE combination of high- and...

    ... we're still alive!

There's some information on USB-C dual-role ports in this G+ post: Benson Leung also runs test series on USB-C cables bought off Amazon, with very mixed results. Lots of them just work in USB2 mode or are completely broken (which has forced Amazon to clarify their Marketplace policies lately).

    SuperZaxxon v1.73 - maintenance release

Hrm, I guess I'll just disable it then... The zram module is loaded at boot time, so memory fragmentation should not be a problem. I used to have the impression it takes some disk swap load off my Rebirth especially when running a web browser (not much else does get it into swap, anyway), but...

    SuperZaxxon v1.73 - maintenance release

Did something change with zram in the last updates? I just noticed I don't have any zram swap anymore, but it's not impossible I somehow broke it myself - does it still work for others? ~ # mkswap /dev/zram0 mkswap: error: swap area needs to be at least 40 KiB Usage: mkswap [-c] [-pPAGESZ] [-L...

SuperZaxxon v1.73 breaks bluetooth GPS connection

This doesn't help the problem at hand, but at least pairing with an android phone still works fine through the GUI. I don't have a device with a fixed key available to test that, though...

    Buetooth DUN vs. suspend

In the recent days, I've been using an Android (Cyanogenmod 12.1) phone with bluetooth tethering as kind of an external 5GHz wifi card. This works quite well out of the box - when Pandora and phone are paired, Network Manager sees the PANU connection, and Android seems to do masquerading and DNS...

    screen lock?

By now, I have built xlockmore and xautolock (xscreensaver would probably be better), but I don't have a good idea how to package that as a PND in a useful way up to now, so that it can be autostarted on login...

    SuperZaxxon v1.73 - maintenance release

While we're talking about blkid - after using my Pandora for several years, I notice that automounting is done by /etc/udev/scripts/mount.sh, and there's a blacklist file (/etc/udev/mount.blacklist). This comes in very handy when booting from sd card, and you don't want your root volume to be...

    Setting up ssh on Pandora

Yeah, long RSA key for authentication, a good symmetric cipher, encrypt-then-MAC hash. The article Linux-SWAT linked to above has recommendations for good fallback defaults even when Elliptic Curves are not used. The sad thing is that ed25519 / chacha20-poly1305 would be more efficient than RSA...

    Setting up ssh on Pandora

I would be very surprised if ssh on the Pandora knew of ed25519: The client is an ancient OpenSSH 5.6 (2010), and ed25519 support didn't show up in OpenSSH until about 2013. It's about the same with the ssh server (dropbear) being used.

    screen lock?

Not strictly a system thing, but since xlock is usually supplied with X11 - I'm looking for a simple tool that locks my Pandoras' screen after suspend or an inactivity timeout - but there' nothing in the opkg packages, and nothing in the repo. Is there really nothing like that on the Pandora?
