Ubuntu Edge - Ubuntu Smartphone Announcement?

At that price they aren't even giving any manufacturing 'guarantees' like the fairphone or OP (fair wages and/or material resources).

    Bodhi Pandora

For one, the post after that first one: "Is it fully compatible with debian repositories?" Is it? I've never used a debian derivative like this. Is it simply based on debian repositories and redistributed? Maybe next week I have time to empty one of my sd-cards and have a try with it.

Yes, and I want it. @ TrashyMG: PNDs will probably not work since they are compiled against softfp I think. On hardfp only the new SGX driver will work, which is only useful on the 1gHz units. Anyone correct me if I'm wrong on this. (I don't mind these things, I have a 1ghz model and don't...

I enjoy running SL4P, but I would be much more comfortable with debian and the ample apt repositories they have. SGX and volume control would be greatly wanted, but I don't particularly see why I would need the pnd-system. (I could always boot to the stock firmware for those)

Hmm, me as well. I thought it was a debian derivative .. less enthousiastic now. [edit: ah! their ARM-efforts are based on debian instead of ubuntu -> http://jeffhoogland.blogspot.nl/2011/07/bodhi-linux-for-arm-alpha-1.html ]

Ubuntu Edge - Ubuntu Smartphone Announcement?

Red Hat makes money from providing services. Not "donations" and "premium" software. It is also the first OSS company that has broken 1 billion dollar revenue: http://arstechnica.com/business/2012/03/red-hat-hits-a-billion-dollars-in-revenue-a-milestone-for-open-source/ Ubuntu isn't touching...

Ubuntu Edge - Ubuntu Smartphone Announcement?

I hope not. Besides, by the time 'the next Pandora' comes out Canonical has changed directions at least 4 times and we'll be at '20.04 Hipster Hippo' or something. I really doubt that such a release would have any real impact on whatever this community is up to in 2-3 years.

    Android "Backend" for Linux?

What, you thought you won't get any teachers in college? Some of them will be great, and some will suck. It's part of the process of learning from others.

    Android "Backend" for Linux?

Heh, I got a $many-hand MSX when I was 10 or something. Unfortunately it didn't come with a tape-deck, so whenever I'd try typing-out programs from the manual the thing would have no memory of them after reboot (or power failure). You can imagine that after a dozen times of this I got...

    .next alpha image

Either way, these kind of configs are quite irrelevant to the progression of .next I'm sure aTc doesn't give a rats ass where the menu is, he'll just overwrite it with his own preferred settings :P

    .next alpha image

Sorry, but no. Personally I would really prefer it as it was. It is also what most users will expect and these settings make it doubly confusing. And why separate buttons for shutdown and reboot? This looks to me like extra clutter (SL4P has an 'exit' button that gives you the 'Log out' menu)...

    Another Pure Data Request

Maybe, I've been asked to come to my previous internship-place at the University of Copenhagen.Really need some spare-time for fun projects first though. So maybe next year. Yup. Mostly membrane-bound proteins and some quantum-mechanics of small molecules as well. Cool, a PhD could definitely be...

Release Sage: Open Source Mathematics Software

Hmm, have been hoping to see a working install of Sage in a while. Indeed its dependencies are a proper hell (also because they don't really seem to be following upstream much and many distros have trouble syncing with them). I don't have any particular use for it myself at the moment, but it...
