Memory usage is obviously very dependent on the desktop environment and application you are running.
Web Browser alone can use quite a lot of memory. Firefox currently using 1.2G on my system with ~30 tabs open. I don't consider that to be that many on a desktop, although what is likely more...
Thanks for sharing the development cost. This is quite interesting.
Even for a project this open, I was not expected this level of detail.
I personally have little idea of what the normal development cost in this industry. I imagine many Chinese devices might have lower development cost...
Thanks for the update as always :)
I feel we're on the right track although some things are taking longer that expected.
It would be nice if more people could test the keymat / gamepad. That being if you are happy with it , I am sure it should already be quite good.
I hope we will see more...
Thanks for the update !
Things take time but it seems everything is coming together. Definitely some good news regarding the CPU board.
I am sure the final Pyra will be awesome. I imagine we will start seeing more prototype soon as well which is nice.
The software part always need time...
Thanks a lot for the update as always. Nice to see everything seem to finally be coming together.
Also I fully agree with the others regarding the level of transparency of the project: Simply awesome !
While it would be nice to have the Pyra for Christmas, I think it's more important to make...
Thanks for the update and video.
I really like the attention to detail and how everything just see to just "click" and fit so well during the assembly process. This is such a nice change from most mobile device which are not made to be open / tinkered with.
I'll probably not open my Pyra...
Thanks for the update and also for sharing the sad part. Sounds like he was a really good person.
The standard color are not bad but I can't say I really like them: blue is too bright for my liking, red looks much better that I expected.
At the end I think black might be the best option.
I don't have any hard data, but I think the concern about the 4GB battery usage are greatly exaggerated. Take any modern phone, if you close all application / disable network connectivity and put it in standby (ie. don't use it) it will usually run for a pretty long time...
So I can only think...
The video is great... it's catchy and not too long.
I personally would have added the list of spec (or a small sideshow) at the end. I guess people can check the website for this though.
Screen quality is not just determined but it's resolution... I would definitely prefer a good quality 720 screen over 1080.
Also 1080 means a lot more pixel to compute... I am not sure that is worth it for a 5' inch screen.
In any case, the discussion is kind of pointless as Linux desktop and...
Please do not try to literately split yourself...
...but more seriously, an extra hand during pre-order time (for PR, order handling...) might not be a bad idea.
Of course that requires finding someone (which also take times...)
I guess one good point about the community is that a lot of...
Interesting... RTC clock being broken definitely sucks, even with ntpd as PC will rely on RTC clock for time at boot.
I am no NTPD expert and I honestly don't know how it is supposed to react in your case. If the time difference is small enough, I believe NTPD will accelerate / slowdown time as...
I have to say I also get confused with all the different 4G frequency ranges. I got the EU version and I believe it should also work in Japan.
At least to some extend as it seems there are many different frequencies being used and it's not a perfect match with the EU Mobile chip.
If somebody...
The Pandora had one, so I would be surprised if the Pyra does not. However I am unsure if this was confirmed. It's certainly true that a lot of devices don't have RTC. (Arguably phone that get time from the GPS network... but I still like the RTC).
Regarding syncing time from the GPS, this...
Yeah I would not worry too much about it... that's Phoronix for you. Most article are not any better.
Maybe it was a tad better in the past... but really it's quite bad. I don't want to hate too much on it as I think it is mostly run by a single guy...
I would take all information on Phoronix...
I would also think using the GPS on the mobile chip would work without SIM card. That being said unless somebody tests it or go through the technical doc, it might be difficult to confirm.
I guess another question is how well the GPS will work without Mobile network connectivity. Most phone...
Android can run on X86. This have been Atom product shipping with Android. I don't think that news.
I am not sure however how usable Android on X86 is. I see no reason for Android / the OS itself to be fine. There could be some issue but I am sure this could be eventually be fixed as Android is...
I think there should be some pretty small USB camera out there...
For example all the "808 Car Key Chain Camera". I think there are multiple version of this... those are usually sold as hidden camera in a Keychain. There have been popular for use in drones (...) with limited space as well...
I am sure more preorder with follow once new video are ported / news site pick up the story.
At this point it seems very likely you'll be covered for a batch of 1000 or more.
I am still surprised by the preorder stats:
- Hardly any order for the 2GB version
- The mobile version represents...
