Maybe you played with a different screen (or keyboard) brightness ? This eats up a lot of power I guess, it might be (at least a part of) the difference you saw there
If my memory does not fail me, it was supposed to be a smaller one. Maybe the progress on sleep mode will help having a longer unplugged usage to compensate :-)
ED said that the first 500 needed some manual modifications on the case, so it will be faster for the next ones ; until then, I guess the assembly will accelerate as the issues are known better, but it will still take time...

@Blue Shadow have you checked the PinePhone ? They are working on a keyboard... Not sure the dimensions would suit you though, but it runs Linux too, and the community seems to be nice, from what I have heard :-)
I use the fluidsynth/jack pair (and their GUIs) on a Raspberry Pi 4 too, both in the older version available using the official RPi OS, or a more up-to-date manjaro OS. Sometimes the configuration is a pain though, I have to make sure PulseAudio does not interfere (on my PC at least) for example
If you need to install Jack, I suggest you also install qjackctl to get a GUI for jack. I'm curious to see if you can get this to work, I use jack along with FluidSynth (anf Qsynth for the GUI) to generate MIDI sounds using my MIDI hurdy-gurdy, I'd love to use the Pyra as the sound generator for...
You can probably also modify the command configured in the shortcut, somehow... maybe try a right click on your shortcut ti see if you can edit it? Or maybe there is a configuration tool like menu editor or something like that?
Depending on the version of Synaptic you have, here is what I would do (approximately, I don't have it right there) :
1) click "Reload" to get the list of the latest softwares
2) look for your software and select it for installation
3) do so for several if needed
4) click "Apply" to actually...
