Here is my first video game ever, a Christmas present from my parents when I was 7 or so :) I remember reaching a score of 999 and then it rolled over to 0. I of course didn't know about integer overflow at the time, but I had an inkling that it was gonna happen but kept going anyway... what a...
I also got my Pandora in 2013, mine is a ReBirth. Out of curiosity, what model is yours? I heard that the LCD ribbon cable was improved for the ReBirth and later units.
They seem to go for $100-200 on eBay last I checked, depending on condition and accessories. I think they're undervalued considering the limited supply and the large library of $0 software, but I see it through rose tinted glasses.
If you're looking to refresh it I recommend flashing Open2x...
I played Bolcataxian, Bolcatoid, and Slyro the Radioactive Cat a few days ago on my Blu+. What a great little machine indeed, and the stick while fragile is the most accurate control ever, even more so than Pandora's dpad.
Just spent 20 minutes playing it, thanks for the port! It's been ages since I played Mario and this was a lot of fun. I like that it uses the entire screen.
That's what I use, you can find the instructions for that on the Boot setup wiki page.
My specific example:
2GB card with two partitions:
mmcblk0p1 (PNDBOOT): 64MB FAT
mmcblk0p2 (PNDFS): 1.9GB Ext4
PNDFS has all the files from the rootfs archive (I actually copied them from the NAND install...
Flashed it on my ReBirth, works well as far as I can tell. No issues during install and first boot, and all the PNDs I tried worked. Thank you for the update!
Homebrew games have personality and are what keep the scene exciting - clearly not everyone shares this idea, but those who do, love them and get what it's all about :) They're also what stands the test of time once a platform is obsolete and people play their ports and emulators on something...
Nice! I remember being blown away by Outcast on the GP32 - suddenly the little handheld became a desktop computer with a file explorer and everything. For a short while I was set on learning all things Atari ST so I could make the most of it. Looked up text and graphics editors, and even thought...
Thanks for the tip, I deleted appdata/giana and all inputs are pandorized now. I know what I'll be doing with my day tomorrow - thanks again for the awesome game, everyone :)
Was there any software that took advantage of the 64MB mod? I read about a Neo Geo emulator prototype in your interview with Rlyeh, but don't remember hearing about anything else.
Speaking of GP32 mods, I remember doing the pencil mod on my Blu+ and running DrMD at something close to 200MHz. I...
Thanks for the polished game, I played this a lot on the GP2X some years back and remember following your dev blog leading up to its release.
Some feedback:
This would be a lot more playable if you mapped jumping to an action button instead of Dpad Up. Jumping with Up works fine on a PC...
I remember playing a lot of The Minigame Project, GPFinalWar, GPWar, gpSpout, GPSquares, Gyroball, Scorched GP, and Vertical. Also Nazca's games.
There's also the classic Homebrew Reviews website to give you ideas.
I had upwards of 250 PNDs on my SD card at some point, and for the past couple of months I've been trying to pare them down to a few dozen I'll really enjoy and have time to play (as of today I'm still at over 200). It's crazy how even on a niche platform like Pandora there's enough content to...
Humble Bundle is selling a bunch of NeoGeo games DRM-free, and the included BIOS and ROMs (at least the ones I tried so far, Metal Slug 1-3 and X) work on GnGeo and NEO.emu on Pandora. I'm currently having fun with the first Metal Slug, pure 16bit glory :)
Speaking of Payback, is there any hope of running the SD card version with Ginge? I tried it recently and it quit after the title screen, I assume it's a DRM issue since the same thing happened long ago when I tried to copy all the files to my main GP2X card and play it from there.
I...
Thanks Hooka, it's awesome to launch GP2X games on Pandora without having to navigate the clunky 4.0 firmware!
And I would totally use Gmenu2x on Pandora instead of Minimenu. I miss being able to create and delete sections, and most of the preset Freedesktop categories just get in my way. Not...
Sounds like the way to go, besides it will save you the hassle of maintaining a separate forum that sees such little traffic. The merge will probably increase the activity in the GP sections :) Thanks for keeping this board and all the file archives around for so long!
I'm a big fan of games that have a small button legend at the bottom of the screen, like in Skeezix's BattleJewels. Works great for menus and other static screens, like when the game is paused.
