    GPIO on the Pandora

Hi, I just remembered that there are GPIO connectors on the Pandora. Are they useful? Fast enough? What can you measure with them? I didn't find any tools for it on the PND manager. Has anyone used them?

    Will there be usable GPIO?

Suddenly my job turned around a bit and I went from application software developer to hardware/firmware developer too. It would be great if the Pyra could be used as a (high-frequency?) measuring device for analog and digital signals. Will the Pyra have some kind of useful inputs (at...

Pyra as full mobile phone replacement?

But I don't doubt these things, I never did. Some of my original questions have never been answered and that's where I have the doubts. For example, nobody seems to be able to answer this one: Like the pandora can be standby for days, will the pyra be standby for at least 24 hours and still be...

Pyra as full mobile phone replacement?

I wasn't aware. That's good news! But then, why does everyone in this topic try to tell me that it probably won't work? Well maybe not literally, but that seems to be the global thought.

Pyra as full mobile phone replacement?

You missed my point. I am talking about real usage. It's great that it works via a serial terminal, that means that the signals are OK. But there is much more to be tested. What if the Pyra releases and the real software to make calls is being Pyra-ised and we come to find out that there is an...

Pyra as full mobile phone replacement?

I don´t want to sound irritating or something like this, but I believe they made that kind of mistake with the Pandora too. They knew it had lots of potential but they never really worked out one of them so they could never sell it as "X replacement". The pandora does everything you want, but at...

Pyra as full mobile phone replacement?

I think that that will certainly not be a problem. That's actually how I see its current state. But for me, knowing how I did with the Pandora, that will probably mean that I will never use it (after some time of over-enthousiasm), and if that's the case, I can't justify the cost :)

Pyra as full mobile phone replacement?

Great and interesting post, but not at all an answer to my OP. I'm not at all looking for a new mobile phone. I'm just looking for more than one excuse to buy THIS device and I was hoping it would do as a crappy but usable phone. "you can't fit it in your pocket"? What happened to one of the...

Pyra as full mobile phone replacement?

Those are more the answers I was looking for. Too bad so much is not yet known, which is understandable of course. I guess the message is: wait until tested by eager people or take the risk and try it out.

Pyra as full mobile phone replacement?

I wasn't talking about mulitasking: I mean, my Pandora can be kept powered up (no standby) for 40 hours or so, so if the Pyra can do this with its cell unit enabled, we're probably good. What I'm talking about is that say if the Pyra can only remain running with cell unit for 4 hours (just an...

Pyra as full mobile phone replacement?

I understand all of that and actually kind of already knew, but the question is more specific (and maybe not clear enough): can it receive calls. I might even be interested in writing code myself for this if the software is cluncky, that's not the point. But: - Will the battery be able to...

Pyra as full mobile phone replacement?

So I'm still very interested in getting the Pyra, and now I saw somewhere that you will be able to use it as a phone too! But something I didn't read anywhere in the forum is: will it be able to receive calls? I mean: it will be in the pocket a lot of the time, probably in some kind of standby...

I wonder... will the Pyra be more "my thing"?

That's true... for some reason I expected nobody would listen (like it is on most places on the internet), but it seems that this community is different.

I wonder... will the Pyra be more "my thing"?

Hehe, thanks. It has been a while indeed, mostly because of the disapointments and maybe being a little bit too shy to be asking all kinds of silly questions all the time.

I wonder... will the Pyra be more "my thing"?

Where can I find the specs on the Pandora?? Even only getting two pixels to light up at boot would be a great adventure!

I wonder... will the Pyra be more "my thing"?

I understand that. It may not be obvious with my maybe naive questions, but I am an expert in h/w and s/w stuff. Just not on every platform out there. I know my way around in Linux but I have never studied it deeply. I have coded my own OS (multi processing, multi threaded, disk access, memory...

I wonder... will the Pyra be more "my thing"?

Great! It works now. Why isn't this documented on the repo? I could have never guessed that I had to add ,1 at the end of the default Audio device. Even more: why isn't the device default from the start when it's software specifically ported to the pandora? I am aware that most problems can...

I wonder... will the Pyra be more "my thing"?

Wow, I hadn't seen any notification email so I thought nobody answered... Thanks a lot for all the answers. I will let them sip in slowly. For what I already noticed: only opengl es is a little disappointing although I understand of course, almost every portable device only supports es, but...

I wonder... will the Pyra be more "my thing"?

I have bought 2 pandora's in the past, one in early development with lots of flaws and another last year because I saw lots of issues were solved. Sadly, I don't use the pandora as much as I wanted to be using it. For me it has certainly not been worth the price, although it's a fun thing to...

Buy a Pandora or wait for the Pyra?

I bought a Pandora when it was in early development. It was not so good. It had lots of problems and it wasn't at all finished (as I was told of course, so nobody is to blame except me). I sold it some time after to never return to this place again. Until some time ago and I saw they were...
