My first impressions of the Pyra

If you liked Mathematica, you should be able to run Maxima on the Pyra. It's a standard Debian package and available for the armhf hardware. I use Maxima for teaching and, although the syntax is different to Mathematica's, it works very well generally.

    It's software this time!

20 fluid ounces in an Imperial pint leading to 160 ounces in a gallon versus 128 ounces in an American gallon and, as you say, the ounces themselves are slight different. Sent from my SM-G986B using Tapatalk

Even more to see here (now)

My 6-7 year old Pandora is in better shape than my 1 year old Gemini. And I don't even use the Gemini as much as I used to use the Pandora. Sent from my SM-G973F using Tapatalk

    Pyra News: Springs are brilliant!

I tried to get more information on this list but clicking on the appropriate link, I get: pyra-handheld.com:1717 uses an invalid security certificate. The certificate is only valid for rhea.dragonbox.de Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_CERT_DOMAIN

    Wrapping everything up!

You've reminded me that the one really serious problem with the Gemini with Debian is that the HDMI adapter is not recognised at all. One of my intended use cases for the Gemini was to use it to give presentations when travelling. Definitely waiting for the Pyra! Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

    Wrapping everything up!

I also have a Gemini. I use it solely with Debian. It does the job well enough for me. I use it every day as a much more portable laptop for email and writing. It has replaced my Pandora. However, I am looking forward to the Pyra for the openness of the design, both in software and hardware...

    Adequate for note taking?

I've been using a reMarkable tablet for 9 or so months now. It's designed for taking notes and annotating PDF documents and does so very well. http://reMarkable.com/ Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Planet Computers : Gemini - Psion Returns

As am I. It's definitely in the spirit of Psions (3, 3a, & 3mx in my case) of old. Only my OpenPandora has come close recently to this benchmark. A portable multifunctional keyboard based device. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Planet Computers : Gemini - Psion Returns

Thumb typing is not as easy as on the Pandora (and Pyra I assume) mostly because of the lack of extra keys and buttons. However, typing with the Gemini on a flat surface is much nicer because of the size of the keys. My use case involves both so I'm happy half the time... The Gemini fits in my...

Planet Computers : Gemini - Psion Returns

Planet Computers : Gemini - Psion Returns

I agree. But I got impatient! The one thing I know I am going to miss the most on the Gemini is the inaccessible battery. There are also many less ports and slots. But it'll do for now. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

Planet Computers : Gemini - Psion Returns

This is what I have been using my Pandora for during the past few years. I am likely to get a Pyra in due course as well as it's more open but got the Gemini as a stop-gap. The Pandora was starting to struggle and I couldn't wait. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

Planet Computers : Gemini - Psion Returns

You can have at least three systems installed, out of Android, rooted Android, Debian Linux, and Sailfish. Although I only intend to use Debian, I installed both Android and Debian just to cover my bases. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

Planet Computers : Gemini - Psion Returns

I got my Gemini last weekend. I installed Debian right away and have not used Android since. The system works very well for what I want which is running Emacs with org mode for agenda and note taking. The system is probably a bit too rough for general use and some things are still missing...

Planet Computers : Gemini - Psion Returns

I'm waiting for a Pyra as well but have ordered a Gemini to keep me going for two months (tm). My Pandora just can't keep up with what I need. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk

    pandian - MARK3 - beta

I think pandian is indeed suitable for daily use. I use it quite a bit, especially when travelling. I do not use any other OS on my Pandora. Zaxxon did not have the packages I need, specifically ratpoison (window manager), unison (file synchronisation) and emacs (for everything else basically...

    128gb SDXC Card?

Interesting. Thanks for the explanations. Been using the Pandora all day and it's working fine. I'm very happy with the extra space and the future proofing for use on the Pyra! [emoji3] Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
