It's yummy. But you can't eat it!

Yeah, that's what I meant as well. Intel GPUs tend to have free software drivers... Only because those tablets are locked to Windows AIUI. And the GPD Win folk explicitly said switching to Linux will be supported...

No way to actually edit it/register? Why does it claim the GPD Win does not have a free software stack?

Only when/if such an upgrade actually exists.

Well, I don't prefer it over the Pyra, but there are definitely some major advantages of the GPD Win: It has the full 4 GB memory I'd like to see. Better CPU. More keys on the keyboard (but perhaps harder to use overall?). Possibly better Linux support since the GPU is Intel which usually has...

How to calculate a price for the Pyra

Maybe the backup units could share a serial number and MAC addresses (and... other stuff that conflicts ugly?) with the main one, so it's less practical to cheat this way.

I don't mean moving the battery, just not needing it to be a perfect fit. Leave some space under it for maybe a NFC module or something. But it sounds like right now, any extra space will cause the battery to fall out... similar to how it is on the N900 where I need to scotch-tape it in place. :/

Couldn't the battery be held in independently of the case somehow? Maybe notches? Extra space below the battery would possibly be nice for extensibility... Where's the stylus?

How to calculate a price for the Pyra

Any chance of being able to buy a second, backup unit at cost (ie, without the fixed/shared cost split like R&D)?

    An almost naked Pyra

Won't they press into the touchscreen if they get much higher? (When it's closed..)

    Hardware license terms

No, this isn't correct, and nvidia/fglrx are in fact infringing. Just nobody with the relevant copyright has the interest/funds to sue them over it.

    Hardware license terms

I don't see the word "closed" on that wiki page... I'm told Vivante's kernel driver is GPL.

    Hardware license terms

Well, there is also the Neo900 if you're looking at future alternatives, but I think I prefer the Pyra.

    Hardware license terms

http://www.gcw-zero.com/ For my purposes, it isn't competing. But apparently others don't need the Pyra's full feature set. CPU:Ingenic JZ4770 1 GHz MIPS processor GPU:Vivante GC860, capable of OpenGL ES 2.0

    Hardware license terms

Someone I was talking to the other day is planning to buy a competing device because it's open hardware and has free software GPU drivers, so I suggested that he fork the Pyra with a different SoC on the CPU board. That was when he brought up the license issue - I guess minimum quantities means...

    Hardware license terms

Someone recently brought to my attention that the OpenPandora was in fact not freely licensed as I had previously thought (no doubt my fault). Will this also be true for the Pyra, or will the schematics be available under a free license this time? My hope is that people will be free to fork and...

    Next huge milestone reached!

Does that mean faster (maybe non-existent yet) cards might still have a problem (and get reduced speed) with the "10" thing?

    Pyra as a Phone

I'll be upgrading from a N900, so Pyra's "everything" is actually a net (function) loss for me since it has no cameras. I'll now need to carry around a second device to take pictures/video. :( 99% of the time, I use my N900 in speakerphone mode. Is anyone actually planning a more phone-friendly...

What are the M4s good for anyway?

    Pyra Developers.

Which devs are getting the prototype units anyway? Will at least one of them be working on Gentoo support?
