Astronomy, engineering and a 2000 years old computer.

BTW here an small Video series about how Mechanical (Analog-)Computers work (Skip to 1:57 for the interesting stuff): Interesting that after 2000 Years the very same way of calculating was used here. If the Greeks would have known about Steam Machines we would be here, at this stage of...

There is already an Thread about App Development for the Pyra: https://pyra-handheld.com/boards/threads/information-regarding-development-for-the-pyra.77357/ In short: Just write your Application so that it runs on standard Debian jessie/stretch and compile and package it on the Pyra later. What are you playing this weekend/these days?

Doom, the original of course, and Doom 2. Its still so much Fun to Play and there's an nearly endless supply of Mods. That's partly because its pretty easy to make your own Maps/Mods (because of the Engine Limitations) and there's an excellent Tutorial Series about it.

Really cool modular and freedom-respecting computer

An RYF Pyra would only need an different Firmware, so there could be an (special) RYF-Certified Version of the Pyra alongside the normal Pyras (If that's allowed by the RYF). However making it the Default is not an Option, because for example DBP-Manager (because you could Download non-free...

    File system question.

Hmm... F2FS looks very promising, benchmarks show it's faster than ext4 (At least on Flash Storage), but takes up more Disk space. So that or ext4 with Journaling Disabled. Edit: Oh and there's still UBIFS (used on the Pandora).

    Disable Media Embedding

@ingoreis I'm more concerned about the Cross-Site Tracking by Google, Amazon and Co. Youtube Embedding isn't an problem, because at least it gives the link to the Video (So the "Video Assistant" FF Plugin can directly launch the Video in smplayer).

    encrypted SD card problem (truecrypt)

Execute the "mount" command in an Terminal. It should list all mounted filesystem's along with the Mount Options (in parentheses). It could be that /media/truecrypt is mounted with the "noexec" Option. If that is the case try "mount /media/truecrypt -o remount,<*>" else or If it still doesn't...
