    demonization of emulation

Your analogy is flawed: While Blu-Ray re-releases of a movie/show have more available data storage than the VHS release and use it a lot (most times better resolution, often more bonus content etc.), re-releases of old console games via Nintendo's Virtual Console have no enhancement other than...

Ram & eMMC costs / power drain

With the ability to hotplug RAM and some users really planning on using it for VMs, 4GiB could be a lot more useful. How great would it be to just deactivate 2 or 3 RAM chips for standby or a Pandora port and then reactivate it for loading full GD-ROM ISOs into RAM to play Dreamcast games...

How to calculate a price for the Pyra

Hell no! If I'd get a second unit I'd also want to use it with the first one in multiplayer games. Closing down an open handheld is a horrible idea.

It's yummy. But you can't eat it!

My god, this slightly bigger transparent case would be a hardware modder's dream. Too bad the production unit will be smaller and probably only in a black version, with this case I'd probably buy a second one just for modding.

It's yummy. But you can't eat it!

ED bought a little more than 10.000 of them before the end of production, so it's enough for 5.000 Pyras. After that, smaller nubs have to be used, which already have solder spots on the PCB. But even those are clickable.

    And suddenly it works.

There are multiple problems with your idea: Changing the outside is going to make the Pyra a lot bigger and/or with a weird shape it's not going to fit anywhere The CPU is on the upper side of the SoC-board, so that the heat can get dissipated along the mainboard. By that, it's also a bit...

    And suddenly it works.

Thanks for the newspost, I'm already excited for the videos! I didn't know about these things about the charger chip, sounds interesting, eventhough probably in most cases useless. But definitely nice to have. The OMAP5 is sometimes looked at as a bad SoC, especially because of the A15s with...

GPD Win (x86 Computer / Palmtop)

This is getting a bit off topic. Me likey! But to get a bit more in the right direction: Maybe I'll get a GPD WIN when it's released, but right now with the design not being final and the representants of GPD (kendy zhou) not really answering questions, I stay the hell away from it. Plus, the...

    Snow!!!!!!!!

Couldn't you have waited until the last post was 10 years ago? It would've just been 5 days... But I can feel your pain, way too cold for this time of the year.

Is there any way to put nested quotes automatically in spoilers? I think that would be perfect.

    NG-Dev Team's arcade & Home Console

No.... just no.... The whole charm of NG: DEV.TEAM was always the production of nice games on old, but beloved hardware. For this, people even paid a premium; a new game on Neo-Geo AES by them can cost >500€ without any problem while such a game would probably go for 10 bucks of Steam/GoG. When...

    An almost naked Pyra

Great newspost and beautiful pictures, thank you for keeping us updated! These problems with the CPU made me think about possible hardware problems with the GPU - I know there's no real driver for it yet, but have you guys tested it at least with the hacked-up driver that was once shown to be...

    Again something I ran into

...it's just a phrase cited from the videogame "Stick it to the Man" wich my avatar is also from. There's no deeper meaning attached to it, other than the fact that I really like this game and maybe that I rarely post anything on these forums. I hoped someone here would get it, sorry for any...

    Upgrading CPU/RAM

I actually don't own a Pandora and never really looked at the open resources, so I've got no idea about other possible changes to the PCB, but are you sure you want to resolder a Ball Grid Array SoC and get into this hell of a software driver situation just to get a slightly faster Pandora...

GPD WIN, xpPhone and Portable Computers

GamePad Digital is a daughter company of SoftWinCN based in Shenzen, China. Gamepark Holdings is dead. Other than that, I'm of course most exited for the Pyra, but also planning to get a GPD Win if possible - 2016 is going to be a damn expensive year. The lack of a keyboard takes away every...

    They multiply!

It's just amazing how fast and smooth the development is going right now, awesome news by the week! And this means that the issues with populating the SoC PCB and the second side of the main PCB are all worked out, right?

2016 is the year of portable computers

...cheap!? You know the 290€ for the Pyra are just a part of the payment, right? Other than that, I'm really looking forward to both devices. I probably won't buy a Smach Z, but the reviews are going to be quite interesting
