I'll be carrying around roms and iso's of every game i ever owned (not that much actually)

If I try old games I never owned, i usually find them to be a lot of crap, must be the memories.

Anyhow, I bought the pandora for the new homebrew

So things like PandoraPanic are the top for me

There's nothing like discovering a game you used to play but had forgotten all about. For example I recently uncovered a game called "Gargolyle's Quest" on Gameboy, had a quick go and the memories came flooding back. Can't wait to play through that one when I get my Pandora.

I'm also looking forward to all the homebrew :D

Well, first two for me.

I love replaying games I already played - but discovering so many more nice (mostly freshly translated SNES-RPGs) games is also fun.

If there's something I like I try to get the original cartridge, too, to add it to my collection :D

Any cool freshly translated RPGs you would recommend? :)

Like what ?? Earthbound chronotrigger?? :) :)

Im Emulate because:

- i have searched a solution to play my old Gameboygames whitout the need for batteries and whit screen light..

- its better when you are on the road, and you dont need to carry your old games..

- Eahrtbound 3 (Mother 3) on the gba dont came to europa = only japanese language: need of a patch: so i can play it and understand it..

- and it is ecologic: the pandora needs less energie, than a 20 yeahr old console + television..

- it saves space in your backpack: insted of 2000 gameboy games, you can carry a lot more bear (beer)..

- and you can try out some games..

I used to just play the games I knew when I was young and now want to complete, but recently I've been discovering games I've never played before.

I'm a fan of games which are absolutely rock solid, these are far more rewarding when you get good at them - and many many older games are like this.

I rarely buy new games these days but when I do I always play though them on the hardest difficult setting as that's usually the only one in which you can't just breeze though the game in a couple of hours (I'm looking at you left4dead series!).

First two for me as well although one of my other reasons is because it can actually be a better experience playing games on an emulator.

Being able to use save states and save a game that your playing at any time is a very useful feature and hi quality graphic upgrades can make older games look even better than the originals.. especially on the newer digital TV's :)

I partly do it to replay the games I've already completed and loved.

Also I have played an obscenely vast amount of games in my time and I love to hunt down games that I have vague memories of, it's a great buzz when you finally track down what you're looking for, I feel like Poirot (which is who my avatar is a doodle of, coincidentally).

Other than tracing memories, I really like to browse through screenshots and try out anything that looks interesting.

Yeah I remember noticing how sharp the graphics were the first time I played Super Mario Bros on an emulator, it looks completely different!

Mostly to play games I enjoyed when I was growing up, but all of the poll choices apply to me to some extent.

Hi there. First posting and i am starting with grumbling. Sorry that for. ;)

Those poll question has nothing to do with the answers. You did answered the question why you play those old games. But you don't need emulation to do so. You can buy the old systems and games and can have the same fun.

My reasons for emulation are:

First at all, time saving.

I can save time by not building up my plattforms every time i like to play. It is very comfortable having all of them on one machine and switch between them by clicking.

I am saving space in the living room, all the engines, controllers and power supply units are good stored and stay in their good condition, not been played to death that fast. On some special events the real things they are used to remember those good old times. So the next reason for emulation is:

Save the old systems in good condition.

The next time savers are the "save anytime" functions of the emulators. Yes, they can be used for something you may call cheating, but used properly the give me the possibility to play even for some few minutes. You know, ten minutes until your train/bus/taxi arrives, the few minutes your girlfriend needs to get dressed with the right clothes for going out... Good for doing two or three fights on RPGs, driving some laps in racing games, getting some points in your jump'n'run. Thinking about it, this is my personal favorit for using emulation. (Especially when you can start and complete Secret of Mana while your girl evaluates the perfect outfit... Just kidding...)

Directly connected to that is mobile emulation. Riding a train and anybody got his ear-plugs in, not interested in small talk? A lot of people are reading books, thats my time to get my GP2X out and start an emulation.

@double7

I agree with all of that. I especially like the save anytime features too; I think this is something all handheld systems, for retro or modern gaming, should have.

Also because I can't be bothered to complete the same levels I already beat over and over again to get to the tough bit. Some may call it cheating, I say life's too short ;)
