To Buy Or Not Buy?

Hello All,

I don't even own one yet but having got back into emus on psp and pc in recent years I have been investigating the caanoo specifically.

I am mainly after a good emu for amiga, the one on my chipped psp is fine but a bit laggy and i've never liked the psp controls, the ones on my android tablet are superb but controller inputs are either poor or no-existant and the pc is too big to take on holiday with me etc...so:

Is the caanoo a worthwhile buy?

I've seen recent arguements about it being only really as good as a psp with cfw for amiga specifically and this has put me off what I expected to be a better emu focused piece of hardware.

Ive noticed from these boards that the amiga uae4all is not really being supported and so wonder if its worthwhile getting for this emu alone?

Any help appreciated.

Emulation on the Caanoo is about the same as the PSP, some things are slightly better on the Caanoo (Genesis) and others better on the PSP (GBA). I would not buy a Caanoo for the Amiga emulation, its okay but not good enough to warrant buying the system for.

Thanks for this...would like a really good portable amiga emu but not looking good. Cannot justify the 440 euros for the pandora to the wife either.

Cheers

Maybe try the icontrollpad for the android tablet. Not sure how big the tablet is, maybe a smaller one can work...

Pandora is probably the best choice for Amiga emulation. They sell now refurbished units for less than 300 Euro.

These Pandoras might work better than new ones, since potential problems are already fixed. ;)

Yeh ive seen this but the issue with android amiga emus (there are two uae4droid...virtually insupported and anuae4all...limited rom capabilty) is that for both on my tablet (xoom) the input from an external sixaxis (which i have working for other emus inc psx) is either poor or not possible.
It very frustrating as anuae4all is fairly well dev supported. I just cannot get an external controller to work well with it.

I liked the look of the caanoo because it has a nice portability and what lloks like a proper analogue joypad...the psp one does my head in.

I might still interested in the caanoo if i felt the controller was better than the psp even if the emu was the same.

Well I think the PSP are pretty similar from the bare power (the caanoo has far more ram, but lacks a FPU unit outside the gpu). The controlls are fine I think. Not sure if you want to spend the money for better controlls. But in general its a realy nice system. Playing currently open tyrant on it.
