Beta Mednafen 0.9.17.1-Wip

Bug! The Fn button brings up the save-state menu. The button should NEVER work as anything but a modifier

I couldn't get this to work no matter what system I tried.

As soon as I select a ROM it just dumps out to minimenu. What is the trick? Does it need to be in a special place or something?

Not sure without more information. It works fine for me using minimenu or xfce. Could you post the contents of the file /tmp/pndrun_mednafen.out?
Where do I get this file from?

Does the emu support zipped ROMs?

First try to run any of the emulators and have it fail. Then open the file manager and click "File System" on the left then open the "tmp" folder. You should see a file called pndrun_mednafen.out that will hopefully provide a clue to why its failing.

Yes, it supports zipped roms.

I'm unable to reproduce this. Could you provide some more details? Have you modified the config file in any way?

You've got a great thing going here. Is optimization a possibility? Or a better interface?

Most of the emulators that are part of mednafen are based on emulators that have been optimized in the past, ie fce ultra, handy, gnuboy, so some of these optimizations could likely be ported over. I can't promise anything, but anyone is welcome to have a stab at it :)

I would also like a better user interface, any ideas on a good mednafen frontend?

Picklelauncher is nice, but even using a Zenity window would be adequate. As for the Fn, yes, I can reproduce it easily. I have not modified the config files (though I did adjust the controls inside the emulator itself). Also, how do I get Neo Geo Pocket games to show in English? All my ROMs are in English, and show up as such in NeoPop, but not here. Do I need to mess with the BIOS or anything?

Just for future reference, this page might be useful:
http://pandorawiki.org/Basic_Linux_Guide

The /tmp folder is described there as well.

It just helps to have a basic idea of how these things work, so that you can make it easier for the developer to figure out how to fix a bug. If something crashes these days, the first thing I do is open Xfe file manager (I don't like Thunar because it randomly prevents me from opening files and has to be restarted), navigate to the /tmp folder, find the .out file, right-click, "view", and copy+paste the contents into the discussion thread for that PND (which are mostly all listed at the wiki software lists). For example, I did it a few times recently for the when the new Midori crashed.

Try setting the "ngp.language" setting to: 1

The "english" and "japanese" enums are messed up due to bugs in a couple of places.

Another bug; if the last used directory is one that no longer exists, the GTK file selector doesn't even open. You also might want to give the user an error message whenever something goes wrong; I spent half my bus ride yesterday figuring out why Mednafen wasn't playing this hard-to-pronounce PC Engine CD game.

Hi all,

I uploaded an updated version (r2) to repo.openpandora.org

Download

Backup anything you want to keep in pandora/appdata/mednafen and move the mednafen directory out of the way before running the new version.

Changes since r1:
* Added ability to toggle scaling for nes, pc engine, and sega master system to stretch to 4:3 aspect ratio. Use # key to toggle.
* Added/Fixed some key assignments
+ fast forward (4x by default)
- slow motion (0.75x by default)
F10 - reset
F11 - hard reset (power)
* Fixed issue with launcher script failing if last directory no longer exists
* Updated to 2011.03 toolchain
* Made PXML validate properly
* Added an icon
* Set default clockspeeds for nes and pce

Awesome :)

Wonderswan Color is great, just played through Makaitoushi Saga this weekend :)

The default controls are not usable for WSC though, I can send you an updated config file if you want.

Thanks ED, an updated config would be appreciated and I will incorporate it into the next release. Before porting this I had never really paid any attention to the Wonderswan, but it looks like a nice system. I also never knew that they made Final Fantasy games for the system- I definitely need to try those.

Is there anyway to merge the virtualboy screens into one?

Are people getting the scaling to work? I've been trying to get it on NES to no avail.

Could you try renaming the mednafen directory in pandora/appdata and restarting the emulator?
Then press # (Fn-v) to toggle the aspect ratio. If its still not working, could you post the contents of your mednafen-09x.cfg file?

I will delete my appdata directory and try again when I get a chance tonight.
