The price for the Pandora has just gone up, and now priced at £309 excluding VAT, so add £62 for Vat = £371 WOW, there must be a Huge demand for this little sucker, I am sure the price will increase further due various unforseen circumstances this project has faced financially

I'm just going to post this link for context: http://boards.openpandora.org/index.php?/topic/1274-instant-pandora-with-a-premium/

I believe that's the correct one.

Not only has the price increased, Craig is selling our pre-order units for the higher price and shipping within seven days while we continue to wait.

I believe it's noted in the linked thread that this is paying for more assembly workers, so apparently that may not be the case. I don't understand the ins and outs of all that stuff, though - I just figured it was worth pointing out that that's already come up and such. :p

It is the case, the numbers dont add up. Craig posted that everyone up to 1000 would have shipping confirmation by the end of last week and that didnt happen and all of the sudden this.

So where are all these extra 7 day guaranteed shipping pandoras coming from?

From people who cancelled, or from unsold inventory (the second batch never sold out).

How is he going to turn batch two leftovers around in 7 days when he hasnt even finished the first 1000 from batch one?

He started selling them last night so seven day delivery means these will be delivered next week.

People who pay extra get to jump the queue. Kinda sucks, but let's face reality... OpenPandora was losing money selling Pandoras for $350. If Craig doesn't start turning a profit, there will be no more Pandoras.

Everyone's first thought is that they're getting their Pandora slower with this, but that is simply not the case. Craig and team noticed that the Pandoras are selling for a large premium on ebay ($500+) at the moment, and so there is an obvious demand for them, even at that price point.

The few extras that they are selling at the higher price will allow him to hire more workers to speed up the process for everone, not just those who are paying the premium.

I really do understand the emotion attached for those of us who ordered on day one - I am one such individual. The reality is that OPT haven't made a dime on this project. They've lost money, actually. And that sucks for them given how hard they've tried to make this project work.

Now that there is finally some momentum going in assembly, it's crucial that the team capitalize on whatever they can in order to get as many built and shipped as possible. If that means that a few people will pay a premium and bypass the queue so that the rest of us will get ours faster than we would have otherwise, then I'm all for it. If it also means that the team doesn't lose money on this project, that's even better.

Remember that the more Pandoras that get shipped, the better the chances are of this project continuing to succeed and to attract more developers. I don't want to get a machine after waiting this long only to have the community flounder in a few months.

Maybe they increased the price to make it seem like its value is increasing, cause the OPT just saw the Sony NGP (aka PSP2).

@_@ (that thing is mental, here's hoping it has hdmi out and at least 5.5hr battery life)

The people who pre-ordered financed the project and should get their units first. It's totally unfair to screw the people who made this project happen, and make no mistake, the people who fronted the money made it happen. Noting happens without capital.

Well, as mentioned above, with the extra money for the express-Pandoras, Craig hires more workers to speed up the overall assembly.
So this speeds up the assembly for the ones who preordered as well. You will get your unit faster and without paying as much as those express-guys.

Except this pre-dated that. It is my understanding that the increase is because it was previously sold at a loss.

How can you get something faster if it is being sold off to someone else under your nose and then you remain in the queue? Its like going to a deli and taking a ticket and then the shop assistants friend comes in and jumps the queue. YOU DO NOT GET YOUR SALAMI FASTER! :p

I understand the extra revenue will be used to hire more employees to assemble pandoras quicker, but this does not in any way mean everyone will get their unit faster at all. It just means somewhere down the line you will be able to produce more per day. So somewhere down the line it will increase the speed, but for those that waited longest it means an immediate delay.

At any time a queue jumper can jump the queue and if there arent enough parts to fulfill a two year old order well thats just bad luck 7 day premium pandoras have a higher priority than the customers who waited so long with no sign of any progress on their order at all.

Well ed just posted on the other forums that the number of premium 7 day pandoras will be limited.

Not to mention it's not a good analogy. More like someone walks in and pays 2/3 more than what you paid to cut you in line. (And if you believe what Craig is saying, then an extra guy or two might come in to work and start working in the line, thereby speeding up the process of making salami sandwiches in the long run)

You can't have a salami sandwich if they run out of salami and have to wait for a salami delivery. Besides the fact I already paid for the salami and bread used In the other guys sandwich.

Also I might add that in no way are these new premium pandoras paying 2/3 more than I paid. Due to currency fluctuations and the refund/international bank transfer fiasco I have paid around $50AUD less than these new orders.
