I don't think Pandora ever had a chance to beat Sony to begin with. To be honest, I see it as a different market.

That phone is still lacking a decent keyboard, which is quite a big deal.

i add that the word "playstation" is added just for the controller shape, this device has not the powerfull of a psp...

He's just bitter because he can't understand Pandora's place as a niche device, or appreciate what the developers have to go through to produce such a device without the resources of a company like Sony, or even Game Park Holdings.

Ahh yes the PSPhone. It's really hilarious to see how people think this is a great but new idea.
I actually had this idea back when I owned my iPaq 2215 and my O2 XDA II (HTC Himalaya). In fact the concept is somewhere here on these forums.

The end result is, the designer of OPandora and designers of PSPhone have different goals.
The OPandora is much more simple (clamshell, large battery, no sim, keyboard, nubs, single-touch) compared to the PSPhone.
So they are different devices, but then again you wouldn't carry both of these devices with you, you'd stick with one.

edit: here is the last "render" I made of the concept http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=754585#post754585. The only other modification this baby might appreciate is having 3/4 buttons on the left side of the display (android buttons/used in portrait mode) and maybe a removable back case/battery so that extended battery cases could be possible.

I never liked playing on mobile phones.

I hate it if it rings while I'm playing.

Phones handle this in different ways: They might automatically pause the game (which is SO annoying... while doing a jump in a Jump'n'Run game, it usually leads to falling into a pit after the phone call, as you forgot you jumped..).
Some phones display on top of your screen that someone is calling... argh!
And if they don't do that, you have no clue WHO is calling.

I don't like that. When I'm playing, I don't want the console to do any weird things because of a phone call.
I want my phone to be a phone any my handheld to be a handheld.
If the phone rings, I take one quick peek at the display, know if I want to pick up the phone or keep playing my game :)

Well in that case ED you should buy 2 PSPhones.
Use one solely as a mobile phone, use the other solely (fight mode) as a portable console. looollz XD

He`ll need a third one, With a custom firmware ,To run all that lovely software
that Sony doesn`t want you to, And go through hoops to stop it being updated ala PSP.

Plus I don't wanna wear out the battery on my phone playing games and then not be able to make that 'urgent' call. the amount of times I've seen to iPhone owners... (hmm only about twice actually, but still amusing)

No, ED don't buy 2 PSPhones! You just need one.

You can get yourself a UMTS stick or a SIM-cardreader or whatever, do a quick port of some drivers and use your Pandora as a phone.

Then you won't be bothered while playing on that stylish mainstream gadget.

I think it looks like a nice piece of kit and it might be a very good Pandora alternative for a lot of people. Its lack of a keyboard might be a problem if you want to play keyboard-heavy games but for regular browsing and typing, Swype is at least as good as a fiddly pocket keyboard IMO. I'm not convinced by the phone's analogue controls, though, and although I'm new to Android, I bet it doesn't "scale up" to a TV screen as well as the Pandora does (big widgets, menus that fill the screen, apps that look better in portrait mode, etc). I like that about the Pandora, I think it will give it a bit of extra flexibility.

Anyway, no need to gloat, we all knew someone was going to do this eventually; I'm amazed it took this long really. It might lead a few people to cancel their orders but I think most of the preorderers will probably stick with it, lord knows they've waited two years, it would be silly to bail out now.

Pleng is right about the battery too. It's nice to have a couple of games on your phone in case you get stuck waiting for a bus or something but if you're using it as your primary gaming device you're in danger of running out of battery at the wrong time, especially if you're emulating PSX games or something. OTOH, this looks a bit thicker than most Android phones that I've seen, so maybe it's got an extra-strong battery to compensate. Can't know until the reviews come in, I guess! :s

Bah, these gadgets are a nightmare aren't they? Everyone wants that perfect gadget that does everything brilliantly, but instead we have a bajillion different devices that all do similar things, and you have to run through the specs with a fine-toothed comb to figure out all their pros and cons.

I'll be honest, I'm in the market to buy a PSP Phone, but it's not going to be a replacement for my yet-to-be-delivered Pandora... it's gonna be a replacement for my current phone. As others have said, it's not fun when your battery runs out because you've been playing games too much.

So why am I thinking of getting a PSP Phone if I'm getting a Pandora? Mainly because I expect my Pandora to be doing most of my 'portable' gaming while the phone does casual game or emulation duty when I'm out and about trying to kill time when Twitter or news updates fail to keep my attention. I expect my Pandora to take over most of my current laptop's duties when I'm out and about or at work: chatting with friends, light document writing, checking email, watching for page updates, playing music. It will be my pocket computer/game device.

I see no reason why the two devices couldn't coexist in my ecosystem. The thought of it replacing my Pandora has crossed my mind, but I don't want my phone and gaming/computing device to be one and the same. Current battery technology (and current phone OS technology) just won't allow it. When the day comes when I can have 24 hour battery life, snappy phone response, AND a full-blown computer OS living together will be the day my phone is also my computer is also my gaming device.

Anyway, you're rather late to the party. Word of the PSP Phone has been around for quite a while, along with many leaks, and no doubt many threads on other boards, blogs, tweets, etc. across the web.

Looks interesting enough. But it'll probably cost an arm and a like like most smart phones.
