Dosbox Question

The thing I don't understand is that if the PSP can run 95 (and even 98), and the Pandora is more powerful in every aspect (and yes, I know that clock-speed comparison doesn't work),

But there's probably something I'm missing here... Is there some particular quirk of the hardware or something? Is the PSP especially powerful when it comes to emulating X86 processors?
Could Exo or someone shed some light on this?

also remember the the psp will boot 95 is not really usable.

Not entirely true. I have seen others as well as catching myself, staring at the desktop for 3-5 minutes while contemplating something. If I could boot up my Pandora and stare at a Windows Desktop, I may solve world hunger, or cure cancer. You just never know. I know you might say I could always make the Linux desktop LOOK like a Windows one, but somehow the staring and thinking thing only works on Windows (might have to do with Mr. Gates collective hold on the world creating a massive mental link? You know "I am a PC").

The later the version, the more intense the staring and therefore the better the thought. (Except for ME, which causes memory leaks, and you forget what you were contemplating in the first place) Win 95 might be the sweet spot between wait for desktop load and thought intensity. Not sure if Win 98 would provide any real world thought improvement. I'll go stare at my Vista Desktop and ponder this one... :p

I loaded up windows 3.11 last night on the pandora, boots pretty fast and gui interactions is pretty good. Touchscreen mouse control needs some work, but i can control via the nubs so it wasnt too bad. Fired up minesweeper.

I think it took like 40 mins to boot win95 on the PSP or something, no?

One of us will just have to set up win3.x and see how it goes :) I mean, we'll need a whole couple of MB of space!

i dont think win95 will be able to handle games like red alert 95 and such, so there is not much of a point getting w95 to work.

For certain definitions of "run". Have you tried it yourself? Do a youtube search and see just how usable it really is. Several long minutes to boot. 15+ seconds to open the start menu. If all you want to do is run minesweeper, yeah, the Pandora will blow the PSP out of the water (eventually) but the vast majority of people that ask "can it run Windows" are not interested in playing Minesweeper. They want to play some of the more modern Windows only games.

edit: seriously, here's a good example
WOO! 1 frame per second playing solitaire! On the Pandora, we'd probably get 2, maybe even 3 whole frames! Perhaps even 5 frames per second in overclock! It's just a few small optimizations away from running Crysis, right?

Red Alert certainly had a win95 version. Perhaps were you thinking of some other game?

Well for my defense, I will say that out of context what borgqueenx wrote could have been taken as Red Alert doesn't run under Win95 :p

OTOH I think that Red Alert could be playable on Pandora using Wine.

Wine is not an option
Can you prove this claim? The lack of Wine running on ARM isn't a proof it's not an option :p

Yes, and then I'll be famous, rich and will have many women (which might make my wife angry).
