Possible System Like Everun Note?

Hi this is just an idea,

I just recently saw the everun note and wondered if the x86 is a viable market for a handheld device. For example imagen the everun note with the same control layout out as the pandora i.e. including the digital pad and mini keyboard design etc... but with components like the everun note.

Even though the system might be expensive there is always a market for this kind of device, but using components like the everun note might make it a more viable emulation and gaming device becasue all the sdks kits that are available on the x86 arc. People like me been using directx to make my 2d games etc.

This is a question to the pandora team do u think using such components in the near future i.e. netbook style stuff could be viabel for this type of platform? How much do u think it would cost?

I am rich so i can afford such a device :) but to me the everun note is quite a powerful machine and would suit perfectly in such a gaming device.

Also how many of u guys would be willing to fork out about 500 on such a device?

What forum are you in ???

btw if this is an attempt to troll then GTFO. Peace

The biggest problem with x86 is its battery life on mobile. Its starting to catch up with low watt processors like atom but ARM is still getting decreasing their wattage too. Everun's components would never fit into a form factor like pandora.

As for $500 for gaming console... look at PS3 sales...

Sure the Everun Note looks swell

I think the dimensions are a tad bigger than the Pandora - it looks like a similar X86 type device - so it might be classd as a competitor device to the Pandora

PROS
Looks like a similar shape to Pandora except I think its slightly bigger myself
12GB SSD or 24GB SSD
Comes with Windows/Ubuntu
AMD Sempron 1.2 GHz CPU

CONS
RAON have already recalled all units for initial bugs - FAN too noisy, blue screen issues with windows so it may actually run like a dog and kill your overall experience, the CPU is supposed to be very hot so get used to using it as a body warmer - Nah - I know which I would prefer the Pandora hands down
Will probably overheat when you tell the AMD chip to do some difficult tasks

If you want to play some games on it it may well heat up as its specs suggest basic graphics

Stick to the Pandora - the battery lasts for ages, and it has all controls you need for games and its touchscreen

If you really want it get it with Ubuntu at least you can have a Pandora type experience, but be wary of battery life, the Pandora will be a better device in the longrun as it will have a community behind it dedicated to ensuring best apps out there - the Everun Note may do well and also get a strong community behind it - but I doubt it will be anywhere as good as the Pandora nor as well supported

That's way more than most of us would be willing to spend. Personally, The $366 that I'll spend on my pandora would be too much if it weren't a community effort and it didn't include so many features on top of the gaming stuff.

Take a Pandora, an immersion heater, a blow drier, a worn-out laptop battery and then start modding.
If you are competent at modding, you will have your DIY Everun Note in the end :)

Hi guys thanks for ur responses,

what i mean't is for future implementations, when the cpu's get abit more efficient for netbooks and battery life is abit better.

I would get a everun note if it had the same control layout as pandora.

But even so it would be cool project to see happen :)

the pandora is a swell handheld but i missed the first batch orders, am kinda looking forward to wiz, pandora and any other similar device which i will by them all :).

If x86 will be more efficient, this might be possible.
It's a very hypothetical question ;)

Right now the Everun weights 742g, Pandora 300g.
So I don't think a Pandora layout on Everun would be comfortable.

Afaik the Everun is locked at 800Mhz while in battery mode.
Speedwise Cortex A8 vs. Atom are similar(Browser-benchmark here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnsaDc6criM, other numbers: http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?s=&am...t&p=676142)
Edit: http://laptoping.com/intel-atom-benchmark.html

Really hard to compare but Atom, Pentium III, and Cortex A8 have similar performance, while ARM is far more efficient.
Battery-life is very bad on the Everun(2.5hours at best IIRC vs. 8.5hours+ on Pandora)

ARM-code vs. x86 code: I would give ARM some more time to mature, ARM netbooks are on their way and will force software development.

Edit:
Be sure to register on the mailing list. You might still be able to get one Pandora from the first batch :)

This thread smells fishier than the contents of baldrick's apple crumble.

To talk about consoles and hand held devices not listed on this forum, please use "Other consoles", and please don't boast about how rich you are, it is an insult to people who are the opposite.

In the handheld market, ARM is still king. Intel is slowly catching up with x86, but it's currently still a battery eating monster.

Duel Core Turon, actually. Comes with HDD if wanted

Just thought you should know :)

And yes, the fucker gets VERY VERY HOT.

There are different sub-models with different CPUs and different prices.
Edit: Stupid me, I compared Cortex and Atom in the other post  This thread will be dead soon, so who cares anyway...

Be my sugar daddy.

I know what you mean, but I have seen the Everun Note running crysis on low setting, it's a beast of a device, I think it's a good enough device by itself for gaming. What it absolutely lack is the ability to flip the screen the other way around, then you use a bluetooth or wireless game controller and can play game on it portably, with nothing but the whole 7" screen showing. (there are other netbooks that can do this, how about the 5.6" fujitsu) An besides there are tons of emulator for Windows. On the other hand I don't like it how a bunch of people bought this $800 device to for the only purpose of heavy processing power tasks like "playing crysis". Beside a pandora, I think there will be a powerful full purpose game console in the very near future. I mean I was impressed to see the PSP playing psx graphic when it's release, it'll be more powerful as they come.

I've been following this company since they had their Everun not-Note handheld. I'll be interested to see what they make next, but I want to wait until the netbooks gets really cheap and have dualcore as the norm and the awesome graphic card the Raon uses, then I'll consider one as my main computer. Imagine a Pandora2 running 1.2ghz dualcore ARM cpu.

Cortex A9 multi-core with pipelined VFP +NEON will rock the house :) It's best to go the ARM route now, there are nice things in the pipeline, even ARM graphics cores(like mali e.g. http://www.arm.com/products/multimedia/gra...i_hardware.html ).
My prediction is, that ARM will gain serious marketshare in MID/UMPC/Netbook space in the next 5 years, while pushing linux into mainstream.
