the f200 and Wiz don't have it because it uses too much space, costs too much money, and uses electricity
Did you just make that up? The Pollux has decent USB gadget support built in and my BoB for the prototype has a mini USB port which I can only assume is to do with that.

EDIT: http://x11.gp2x.de/tempfiles/gp2x-new/IMG_1126.JPG

OK, I think I am now on the same page as you, the Pollux has hardware support the MMSP2 lacked.

I like your picture, it is the most exciting thing about the Wiz so far :)

Does anyone have any idea when USB Host support will be released to the public for the Wiz?

Another commendation, it appears that there are now screws to hold EXT gadgets on :), this means that all my complaints about the flimsy connector were wrong, if you have a full-time gadget (like a mini-usb addon with Bluetooth), it will solidly dock.

They listened more than I thought I guess. I was just surprised that there was a non-standard USB (IE not USB mini), cord.

Sorry everyone for blowing up.

Thank you GPH! I'm glad that you're listening to the commnity about this.

On another note, does the Wiz have ANY USB ports at all, mini or not? Seems like an odd design choice..

Funny story, I fried my first GP2X when I discovered the EXT port could fit the cable from my Samsung mp3 player.

The only port is the EXT, it appears to hold USB Host and device pins (device would normally be on a usb mini connector)

Damn... that will definitly makes the decision a lot harder.

The Wiz now really sounds like the perfect handheld linux gaming device (unlike the Pandora, which sounds like the perfect "all in one, wonder" ;) ).

Big ThnX to Ed for al his hard work with GPH and the GP32/Gp2X/Pandora/Wiz Community, Also Thanks to GPH for listening to his wishes, and tumbs for all your Opensource Devices Old and New.
Just keep checking these forums about our needs :D

Good stuff, thanks ED for making them listen, and to GPH for making the change in the end. I think the community has just saved the Wiz from being a terrible flop with (as ED said) awful controls.

Since it's now coming out at the same time as Pandora, I will probably wait until next year to get one (after I see how the Mk1 fares--don't mean to be rude, but if they can make such a glaringly obvious mistake as the dual dpad, who knows what else could be wrong), but at least now I definitely do want one :)

The choice between a used GP2X/PSP vs the Wiz for some people is surely a lot clearer now.

I am disappointed with the decision. I find it sad that this community is thriving on old-school emulators instead of "moving forward" with some innovative games. From a business stance I understand GPH. There are probably a lot of people who live for these emulators and I cannot imaging they will lose a single sale because it does not have 2 d-pads.

The question is, will the extra sales make up for a 30-day delay. Personally I believe not.

The only way for GPH to make the Wiz a success is through this forum. In the past they had no competition, and now they see the Pandora being so popular they know they need to change to stay in business.
They are copying the method of Craigix by sending free units to devs, and trying to get them to support their device.
Personally I think it is a bit late, but better late than never. It is good they listened, and it is good that customers are finally getting what they want.

The control change is nothing to do with emulators and entirely to do with usability. A direction pad for action buttons simply wasn't very usable be it for new games or indeed emulation. An arrangement of 4 action buttons however is tried and tested and in a cross configuration can act like a dpad as well if needed. This decision will mean many people who were put off before will now buy the Wiz.

Well, we did talk about that a lot.
Basically, there wouldn't be thast many innovative games. Maybe a few, yes, but most people would expect many more games.
How many games would come to your mind that you could create with double DPads?
5? 10? That's it.

And it's not only the emulators. When some homebrew-developers codes a Jump'n'Run, he couldn't even make a "run and jump" button combination.

Definately. Look at this thread, how many people did say now they'll buy it?
Ask GPH how many eMails they got that they should change the system.

So what's better - an innovative system with a few innovative games which stops production after a few months. Or a system which is really good and stays in production for years?

No, no native one. But as you can see here, there is an adapter usb cable included.

@u9i
Yes, I also like the dual dpad design. But I think EvilDragon is right. It's the best solution.

Yep, I meant years, fixed that.

To all those who try to tell us that the second DPAD is fine:
Did you even try to PLAY with it?
'cause EVERYBODY who played with it wanted to change it. Basically, you could only use it as a single button reliably.

No, there was no opportunity yet. But you can send me a unit with dual dpad design, I will buy it. ;)
I'm a little bit irritated that I must justify my taste and thoughts in this forum once again. :(

It's got nothing to do with justifying it.
Read my first IFA post, I tried it and at first thought it worked good. Until I tried a game which needed more buttons.

But if 100% of the people who actually have a system say it doesn't work very well, how come you can say you LIKE it?
You can like the idea of having two pads, but if it really PROVES to be useless (and I'd say 100% is prove enough), wouldn't you think you probably won't like it, too?
