I was delighted at the prospect of having some kind of mouse support on the Pandora.
Ideally the DS style of control, or at least being able to reach the touchscreen while playing.

That all seems to be out the window now that we have the semi-final design.

I don't really consider the dual analogs a great solution, they work, but its basically console style controls.

I read that the DS is getting a port of Quake 3 and perhaps many more classic FPS titles.
It seems a shame to me that a device as powerful as the Pandora is missing out on an area which the DS excells in.

So, I'm posting in the hope that somebody has an idea which can be easily implemented before the design is finalised.

What about some kind of touch device add-on which fits over the keyboard? A mini trackball?

I know I'm clutching at straws here, but I had to at least ask!! :D

Yup, something like that is an idea if it were small enough to hold in one hand.
Of course the Pandora would have to be balanced or contain some kind of grip which allowed it be held with one hand while using an analog and trigger button.

Secondly, I personally want a handheld device which I can play FPS games on.
Lugging around a mouse or joystick or whatever can be done, but, it's hardly 'handheld'.

I personally like dual analog. I can't STAND DS FPS controls. MPH just annoyed me.

Just plug in a mini-mouse. Problem solved, and it can fit in your pocket with the Pandora.

That's not an option for handheld use.

A touchscreen is great for pointing and drawing, but I've yet to see a good implementation of touchscreen controls for an FPS game. Dual analog controls should work fine.

You can always use a Gyration freehand mouse. Kind of like a Wiimote. Also kind of expensive, but it is a nice mouse, lol.

And what about Abuse?
I don't know, I have never tried it on a touchscreen (I don't think it would work too well). Dual analog will take some getting used to, but I'm sure it won't be as bad as just using the touchscreen.

Uh... like that?

That's truly awful. You need to take your finger off the aiming controls to fire!

As long as the Pandora has a stiff enough hinge, touchscreen will work fine for FPSes.

On the contrary, MPH was the first FPS that didn't require me to rub my stomach and pat my head at the same time (in other words, manage two analog sticks for 3D movement), and so was easily playable, though not easily mastered.

Abuse3 is dead, isn´t it?
The Dos Abuse is not a Fps. There is a further version?

Well, it is the first game to use the mouse for aiming and the keyboard for movement, supposedly. I believe it's still binded by the issues we're discussing, even though it's not a first-person shooter. But then again, I like to hijack.

Additionally it avoids the inverted y-axis debate...

I wonder if making a touchpad which slots over part the keyboard is an option?
That would make lots of (potential) DS and older PC games playable.

Any hardware modders up for the challenge? ;)
