I just got a Games N' Music cart for my wife's pink Nintendo DS. Came with a nds cart with micro sd(?) card on it, and a usb reader the tiny card plugs into to transfer files.

Anybody know what I can do with it? Are there emulators and stuff for the NDS that will work with it? Can I put a higher capacity memory card in it? Came with 128mb.

Thanx

Feel free to PM me any info that you can't post here that I may find useful.

Sounds like an R4 cart.

This looks exactly like an NDS card with a small slot for micro SD at the side.

Basically, it allows you to play roms (NDS roms), and also play homebrew, movie and music files.

You should google R4 Nintendo flashcard for more info on what I think you have. Also, check out moonshell for playing video's. If all this sounds a bit cryptic, just do a quick google to confirm this is what you have.

You should be able to get homebrew and media up and running no problems, but if you need anything else (not roms) just PM me and I will send you some files that may be useful.

edit: Micro SD comes in up to at least 2GB, maybe more these days?? - I have a 2GB msd anyway.

That's not an R4 or M3S, it's a Datel product.

First of all, it should be able to read any microSD/transflash up to 2 gigabyte. You can use it to play homebrew games, watch videos (you will need to convert them; a program for that should be supplied on a CD-Rom) and listen to MP3. I don't know if it will allow you to play commercial roms but I see no reason why it should not, even though that is probably not what Datel will tell you to use it for ;)

The video converter works pretty nice! It was much more painless converting a video I'm working on (in DV avi format) to play on the nds than to the gp2x.

I'm confused on how to get things to work with it. The gp2x is so much easier to get software running on it, just put to a card and it works. I guess I need to do something called dlti patching for the homebrew stuff? New to me and I don't understand it yet.

I've read a lot about the thing on the net since yesterday, and everybody says you can't run commercial roms, but I dunno why it would be that much of an issue. Surely the gurus can find a way to circumnavigate any barrier.

Seems like a spiffy thing for only $20 anyways, if I can get the emulators to work.

Anybody know how the emulators compare to the GP2x? My wife would like to play some of the same games on her NDS.

Might be, but there have been means of playing commercial game images on the DS long before this Datel product, and most people who are interested in that already bought a supercard or a R4 long ago.
So it´s rather unlikely that someone cares to search for an exploit for this specific device. Plus, it´s just not designed for this purpose, so there might be technical limitations that make the usage of commercial game images difficult or impossible.

the ones iv tried aren't even close to the 2x. snes is pretty fast, but there's a lot of graphical glitches and it doesnt fit the screen properly, nes runs well but again it doesn't fit the screen. i've also megadrive this is ok but theres no sound
