Camelot Warriors Remake For Gp2x And Windows!

I've just played the c64 version of this game. That's also pretty hard!
Really teriffic job. As long is the game is intended to be that hard, please keep it that way.
And don't implement a cheat mode, I always hated that.

You can't please everybody, so let the whiners play Supertux and we old hardcore retrogamers will go for it just one more time :p

Hi!

I'd like to introduce myself. I'm the artist of the highly graphical game... :D

Yes, the game IS difficult, I would say IMPOSSIBLE for all those who did not play the original game and don't know the mechanics.

And yes, most of old spanish games were that way. But it was the point; it is for a contest in wich we have tried to imitate the difficulty of those games.

I was sure most people wouldn't like the mechanics, as they are obsolete. Actually I don't like a game which don't let me finish the first level (or escape the first monster), it's stupid. But years ago I completed the original game and it was funny, and I assure you I'm able to complete this remake (yesterday I did). And I know a 12 years old boy who did reach the end of the second level. Let's say it's just a videogame with another kind of fun.

If we wanted the game to be popular we would give more abilities to the main character, increase the playability and convert it in a Castlevania-like game (and maybe we'll do, we CAN do it if we want), but it wouldn't be the remake of Camelot Warriors, it would be another game, and it wouldn't fit in the contest.

Well, I only wanted to say you're right, the gameplay is... special :D , but of course we knew this; we WANTED this. And yes, we played the original game, know it very well, and completed it!

And if people is interested we can take the graphics and make the Camelot Warriors Enhanced Edition in the future, that will be more succesful for sure.

Thats all! Sorry for my english!

Hi Coelophysis,

Awesome pixel art! You should put your work on Pixeljoint.com! I am loving these graphics the more I look at them. Just for the record, I didn't mean for my comments to come off as a personal attack. It's just that I am a smart-ass. What I really meant to say was that it was a shame that such professional looking pixel art was put into a game with such frustrating gameplay.

That being said, a free game is a free game, and it is very much appreciated. I am not going to stop playing this just because it is tough. I understand your goal here, which was to create a remake of an old game, and in that regard, you did a fantastic job, no question about it. I hope you win the competition that you entered the game into. Your game shows a lot of hard work. I would love to see what other games you guys could come up with in the future.

By the way, your English reads just fine to me!

Hi Coelophysis,

Thanks for posting... both you and BUHOnero did a great job of recreating the original game... with much better graphics of course. Nice to get your input, I know you will do well in the competition work is commercial grade for sure.

I am not saying the game is impossible to play... it was just not enjoyable... well at least for me.

Just wanted to chime in and say again what a nice job you did... and I agree... there is nothing wrong with your english... much better than any attempt I would have at spanish.

Oh come on guys, no need to be so harsh. From what I gathered, this is a remake competition, and the accuracy of the gameplay in regards to the original is likely an important part of the whole thing. Perhaps after the competition, the author will release a separate version with a lower difficulty. Saying that his game is a waste is unlikely to make that happen though.
Okay, I agree... but why would you remake a game that is shit in the first place?
I can totally see that a lot of effort was put into this... which makes me even
more sad to not being able to enjoy the game :( I hope a more easy version will be released,
atleast being able to slash the ball creatures...

Hi

The game play is absolutely fine. Thank you for your efforts. You spanish guys really seem to know how to get the best out of fenix.

It appears to be running in 8 bit graphics mode. Did you make those graphics with just 256 colours ? That is absolutely incredible.

Hey, would you like to redo the graphics for Knight Lore for me ? ;)

I found this remake easier than the original in Amstrad CPC. ;)

Yeah, it's very hard, but anyway it's a very short game, so difficulty gives you hours of gameplay instead of some minutes. :p

I loved the original game, and now i'm loving this remake. Thanks to both authors!!!

Incredible graphics AND sound!

Hope you win the competition and work on gameplay refinements.... ;)

And yes, a game can be HARD and FUN (Battletoads aynone?), but not frustrating and fun at the same time. And this game is a very frustrating one to me.

Played it a couple of times and it gets easier after practice (not easy though, we don't want that).
Very rewarding if you enter a new part of the game. The underwater scene is beautiful and I love the way the frog is animated.

it's very easy!!!

if any one can't jump from the first platform... practice more and more jajaja

I and Coelophysis love the result, it's perfect biggrin.gif we wanted THIS result

Play more!!

That video isn't of the game that was released is it , or am I going mad ? On the very first level on that video there is no wasp to deal with and later on the level is not the same either (I played the windows version of the remake). Here's an example in a screenshot-stylee.

Yaeh! the video is an older version of the game, but the first platform before was more little, and more difficult to jump the little ball monster :D

We put the the tree more far away because people will can jump, but people can't jump :S old version was more hard!!!

If you see top left there was a little text and numbers: test mode for me, the coder :D

Yeah. The game is so well done that we have to play it, despite the clunky warrior ;)
The underwater graphics is really nice, and the frog is somewhat more controllable.

Finished the game!! :D

Not without finding a bug and cheating :p

Just go throught the first stage, become a frog and die near the exit. When the Game Over screen shows up, just jump to the exit without pressing start. Enjoy!

I found a map to the original spectrum game, and noted a final castle stage. Just thought you didn't programmed it. Silly me. :p

It's a very pretty and authentic remake, well done guys!

It's just a pity most people wont see more of the lush gfx than the first platform. So many early 8bit games had gameplay flaws, like not being able to duck, crouch, pass a tree or whatever.

Back then it was normal.

Nowadays, these kinds of game-play limitations make them, just not very good games.

I cant help but want to see these very good gfx used in a game with good player control and gameplay, something like Castlevania, for example.

The best remakes are of games with gameplay so good it's timeless. Adding better gfx and sound only improves an already very good game.

Possible spoiler (possible unspoiler to ;) ):
To get past the first platform you need to wait for the little guy to move close to you three times, then follow him and jump.

Excellent graphics, excellent sound and it looks like its a spot on emulation of the original mechanics. Thanks guys :D
