The Whatever Happened To Zodttd Thread

I definitely vote for psx emulation :)2D games like Castlevania, Oddworld or FF serie would be fantastic and could probably run well! and some 3D games already runs pretty well

Id like to see USB Keyboard and joystick support in emulators such as the C64 and BBC ones if you fany doing that

Actually, I would be glad if you worked on OpenTTD a little more, as I can enjoy it on my zodiac ^^. Other than that, if you could polish the pc-engine emulator a little, that would be awesome. Adding savestates and tweaking sound support, I think it would be a nice little project for you. Glad to see you are still here and enthusiastic as usual. You're an awesome guy.

I still confide in those guys( Zodttd,Unai,Chui,Tinnus) to get a PSX emulator with full sound at mid speed in 3D and fullspeed in 2D :)

I vote for PSX.

I vote for the PSX emu!
(or at least getting memory cards working again before it's put on the backburner)

Heh. As for GBA, I was lucky enough to get the framework up for gpSP2X and shove in my dynarec. But now it's up to the original author, Exophase. He's much better at that anyways. It's in good hands. :)

I'm in the process of talking to Unai and getting psx4all's schedule/outlook discussed. Working on it some more would be good.

Getting work on OpenTTD done will happen probably no matter what as long as esoft wants the project kept up with. So thats good news for GP2X users, as its a similar build to those with Smartphones.

I spoke with DOSBox, and while the maintainer of the project doesn't want to officially support handhelds, I've been given help and some diff files to get started on a DOSBox C Dynarec. It will go slowly but maybe boingball will be interested and get me up and going. I guess the question is, if speed was doubled would games/apps be playable on boingballs current build? What if framerate was x4? Not saying any dynarec will or wont reach those performance gains, but those two figures help me find out how feasible / futureproof the project is.

1- DOSBOX! (old Infogrames and Sierra SCI adventures on the go = my dream fullfilled...:) )
2- PSX (Focusing on 2D and simple 3D games in the first place and then moving on with the problematic ones...)

My vote would be to help the guys doing the GBA emulation, if it could be got to the same level that NEOGEO is that would be ace.
It's still some kind of funny, that we have full Speed NeoGeo and CPS2 Emulators (This guy who made CPS2 was amazing! ) but still not a Full Speed SNES or GBA Emulator, ok GBA makes BIG steps. :)
I know NeoGeo Games ported to SNES and I know how poor they look on SNES compared to the Original Game so I still wonder, if the SNES really is such a weird Monstermachine in Emulating, compared to the CPS2 or NeoGeo Machines.
The guys who build the SNES seems to be crazy people right?

DosBox would be my vote, although obviously with the support of the Dosbox team, since it'd be a mammoth undertaking without that. Further PSX work would be cool, too, but if you've reached the current limit, then equally fine to give it a rest for a bit... after all, you came back a few months down the line and netted another few fps last time :).

So yeah, order of preference:
- Psx, if (and only if) you think your time would be well spent there, and you're still being interested by the slow (but steady-ish) gains you've been making.
- x86 dynarec for DosBox - I wanna play Tyrian on the move, and I want it a bit faster than it is already!
- Sharp x68000 emu, because it looks very very cool and no-one's tackled it yet.
- OpenTTD, last because it's not a game I play so much, BUT if it's what you feel like doing, go for it (because after all, it's your coding time).

:)
DosBox sounds Great. This program hasn't found his way on my SD yet, because of the still poor performance. Please report, when Commander Keen 4 runns Full Speed at 200MHz on GP2X. (Sadly, we don't have an Interpreter like for Keen 1-3 )

Oh, I was playing OpenTTD like mad on my PC. But I think this Game is not the best choice for a GP2X - it just not good playable without Mouse or Touchscreen. So I wouldn't spend to much time in this project.

Dosbox x2 speed would be amazing, even times 1.5 would be great. And I don't mean just a good improvement, I mean really useable. Some games already work pretty playably. Even just a little bit more speed 3-5fps would really make it that much better...

I view of the fact that the dosbox crowd aren't fussed about keeping up the handheld end - I don't think a few hardware specific hacks etc would go amiss. Soundblaster on the second core?? Or something...

I think at the moment we have a not very fast 386 or so... looking forward to results Zodttd. I'll happily lap up new UI tweaks for openttd too :) .

GBA is, for the most part, much more powerful than NeoGeo.

Adventure games are better suited by direct ports; ie: all the major interpreters are already available on most every platform (infocom, sierra, lucasarts, level 7, magnetic scrolls, etc), and porting (say) frotz (for infocom style) is a _one hour job_. The trick is making them playable on handhelds. (I've done that extensively on PDA's like Palm OS, so it can be done quite nicely.)

DOSBox is better for un-opened things, like playing Wizardry etc :)

GBA has 32Bit, right? Ok, but when GBA is so powerful (I'm sure he is) why he can't have games like NeoGeo Fighters with all this amazing big Sprites, zooming and Scaling Orgies and all the other Amazing Graphics... or do GBA has? (I don't know much GBA Games )
Is it all because of the huge Module-Rom-Sizes of NeoGeo?
