on the wiikey do you have to solder the four extra contacts or only the quick solder points?

only the 6 quick solder points, No extra connections are needed like you have to do with the cyclowiz (eg Soldering to reset, soldering a seperte switch etc) Thats the good thing with the Wiikey :)

Are the things circled in orange quick solder points or just those 2 holes?

Them 2 holes and the 4 points circled in orange are the quick solder points

to do a wired install you just connect the wires to them quick solder points (like what I did in my pic)

so could I just put a bunch of solder on the points circled in orange?

Yup, you just like make a bridge with solder from the quick solder point to the wii board liek this -

I just opend my wii and now im waiting on my wiikey coming today hopefully :). But my solderin iron looks too big :(. It is just a 15w one tho but the tip looks quite a bit bigger than the points to solder to on the wii :(

Edit: Nope im wrong one is a 25W one and the other is 30 W. I taje it i would fuck my wii up with them ?

EDIT: Ive done it but it is very very very bad soldering so i didnt take a pic :p i think i need a smaller iron. I have just plugged it in whiel its still in bits and it seems to work but i have not tested anythin in it yet.

I'm off to Maplins to get a soldering iron. I don't know whether I dare do it today.... The chip is so small! Think I am gonna do the wire method; that seems easier.

Wish me luck :(

i already had a 25w and 30w iron but bought a 12w one from maplins today and it was still kind of big.

My pc cant read wii games :( was wanting to copy one of my games and try it coz the other way of gettin the wii games is goin very very very slow.

Do the wire method on other forums the quick solder has been seen as more difficult! Also you will be able to remove it should you want to.

:Steve-o whats the clearish gunk you used to hold the chips wire to the pcb?

LOL everyone on all the forums has asked the same question :p... that clear stuff is hot glue, it gives the wires more support and stops them comming loose if the console is knocked etc. It also keeps the wires nice and tidy in one area :)

heres a pic before it was covered up with tape... notice I added more hot glue to give it extra support, I also glued the chip down... -

My soldering iron has a very fine tip like a sharpend pencil..

heres a good way to check your install, download the v1.1 Wiikey setup disc and it should load up if all went well :) -

oh yea, and to make Wii backups you need a LG DVDRom drive or wait for the WiiKey SD Card backup update.

The pictures make the chip and wire look big, this is the size of the chip -

I did try the setup disc and that seems to work :). I should really glue my wii to the floor or somethin coz i know that if my wii gets nocked around atall the wires will all come loose, I really am not joking at how bad they are hahaha

I DID IT!!!!

I chose the wire method (thanks skysnapper) and made a right mess. I used sellotape to hold it in place and it is well ugly, but it works!!

Thanks for everyones help

looks like the wiikey is the way forward then. Just before i order mine, are the backups difficult to burn, or just to any dvd from any dvd drive? And are there any other chips on the horizon that will offer 100% import compatability?

their most likely will be a chip with 100% import compatability or who knows, they might find a way to add 100% import support to the chip via a update or someone might release fixes for the games that dnt work etc..

you need either a LG 8161B, 8162B, 8163B or 8164B DVD ROm drive to rip the games with Rawdump then burn with nero.

anything with RW after it is rewritable.. Im using Ritek G04 DVD-R's and they are working perfectly :)
