Psp Upgrading...

I got my hands on a used PSP from the local EBGames with 2.6 and plan to upgrade it to OE-B.

My question is this... do those games that have the firmware upgrade do it automatically, or do you have to do it yourself? If it will risk screwing up my PSX emulation, screw it, I won't buy any PSP games, but if I don't have to worry about it, there are a few games I might get now that the PSP has a must-have app.

All games that require a higher firmware than you currently have to run will prompt you to upgrade your firmware, but will not do it automatically. Basically when you try to run the game it just produces an error message asking you to upgrade.

Plus once you get OE-B on there shouldn't be any problem with firmware versions (for a while at least).

PS: PSX rocks on PSP! Welcome to the club. I recommend PSX2PSP 0.6 as a GUI for POPstation if you're looking for one. :)

DO NOT USE A GAME DISC TO UPDATE!!!!

You need to Upgrade to 2.71 first and then Downgrade to 1.5 and then update to 3.02 oe b with dark alex's installer...

Once you've got 3.02OE on there you don't have to ever worry about games or the network updates because Dark_AleX was smart enough to make it impossible to use a standard Sony update on the custom firmware. I've tried it myself and all that happens is you get some weird error message and that's it. Your PSP will be update-proof :)

EDIT: Just noticed no one actually answered your question. Nothing will update your firmware automatically, even if you clicked the Update button you would still have to go through an agreement screen first.

2.80 is the upper limit now :p

But we will laugh anyway because we're all big meanies.

but persoanlly I would just goto 2.71 as I know the 2.71 downgrader is super easy to use (never used the 2.8 downgrader :) ) :D

Ok, I've got the 2.71 eboot file ready for upgrading. I looked at the downgrader and it says I need to get a folder from someone else with a 1.5 firmware? Other forums have talked about going to 3.02OE-a directly from 2.71... how can I downgrade if I don't know anyone else with a PSP?

Sorry for my newbishness.

This place has all the firmwares you need, as well as other (LEGAL) stuff

Yeah, that's where I got all my files, but that's where the downgrader says I need the participation of a 1.5 owner. :(

... I don't know anyone with a 1.5 FW PSP ... I down-graded/upgraded/sidegraded all by my lonesome ...

I was 2.6, upgraded to 2.71, ran HEN-C (Homebrew enabler C), ran the downgrader to get to 1.5, installed OE-A, updated to OE-B, and done.

It seems like a lot, but one step at a time, carefully, and it's not that hard. :)

Edit: I just looked. HEN-D is available? Would that one work or should I stick with C?

Ah, HEN-C. That's something I hadn't grabbed yet. I'd better do that.

Take a step back for a minute here...

Have you checked to see if you have a TA-082 motherboard?

If yes then ignore me, but if not then don't do a single thing yet or you could brick your PSP.

Yep. I made the chick at EB games give me the PSP to check the firmware and the circuit board before I did anything. No text on the right side.

Sweet, you can follow the exact same steps TelcoLou did then.

I'm not sure why there was a mention of needing another PSP owner with a 1.5 earlier though?

YAY!! Do it!!!!

I will... as soon as I can figure out how...

Update: Ok. Updated to 2.71 and HEN-C applied... attempting downgrade...

Update2: Dammit! The downgrader won't work. It just locks up and doesn't even start to flash... I don't get it...
