The problem is real obvious in "Adventure" and easy to get too since it's at the beginning of the alphabet. :lol:

You have to play it on a different emulator to really be able to tell. I've been playing 2600 games for years so I'm pretty used to the way it sounds. I only tried "Adventure", "Space Invaders", "HERO", and "Ms. Pacman". It was not until I got to Adventure that I realized something was not right.

Other than that it plays great! It gets a little funky from time to time though. Another "quirk" is if I adjust the framerate the mouse speed gets affected. Setting framerate to 1 makes the mouse literally crawl.

If I get a chance maybe I'll try a few other titles, but it seems to affect pretty much everyone. It will probably be more obvious in games your familar with.

Ok. Just so we are clear. Would you say that the sound is more biased towards the higher end of the spectrum, or the lower? It'll help so I'll know which way to adjust.

I did notice that the sound in Vanguard was a little off too. When the Music plays after hitting the "E" it sounds like an erroneous note gets played once in awhile. Also wasn't there a "bass" track playing as well as the other tune giving 2 channels of sound? It sounds like only one channel is playing. I could be wrong though as I am going from a 25 year old memory of the game.

it doesn't work anymore for me... just hangs on start, unless it's because I have all my roms in one folder... going to try to delete the extras and organize it, and I will report back

EDIT: it only happens after I select the roms folder, why I think it's my fault

The sound is higher in pitch. Stefana said something about it having to do with the sample rate being at 22050 instead of 31400. He said setting it to 31400 created some other problems.

Your timing is impecable. I'm having Lou check a quick fix right now... the screech (i think) comes from the difference between the tia freq and the sample rate (because we have vol clipping disabled for the gp2x). I'm testing 15700 in both variables. So far no screech in Ms. Pacman, but the jurys still out on other games.

Update: 15700 seems to resolve the issue. For those who don't want to wait on the revision release, edit 'stellarc' using notepad, vi, pico, etc.

Change the values of these variables from

freq = 31400
tiafreq = 22050

to

freq = 15700
tiafreq = 15700

So that's what Ms Pacman sounds like when she dies :lol:

"do-do-do-do-do" > "screech!"

ok better, but there seems to be a slight delay between when the action occurs, and the sound comes out. :lol:

Hmmm.... What game(s) is this happening in? Is anyone else having this problem? In general, how are the new sound settings working for everyone?

Also, for everyone who doesn't want to edit their stellarc file, the revision is up at any of the following:

http://archive.gp2x.de/
http://stella.sourceforge.net/
http://zansatsu0.tripod.com/stella.html

As always, be sure to do a clean install.

Maybe a dumb question, did you do a clean install? An old stellarc file can cause some problems.

I did some tinkering around and the following settings seem to do the trick.

freq = 31400
tiafreq = 15700

I does cause some minor popping sounds in ms.pacman, but the "ghost" sounds in Jr. Pacman are back!

I tried setting clipvol to true but then I got no sound at all. :x

Regardless. I don't have a clue technically how those params are supposed to work/interact, but the above worked for me. :D

yeha, I did, deleted the files from root then just copied over the stella-2.2 folder to be more organized
