Button placement becomes less of an issue when you have a keyboard. :p

I really doubt the validity of this as a strictly gaming machine, Like Dave said, it's a Super PDA. It'll be awesome for playing Bejeweled or some ported emulators but it will probably also cost 500 bucks.

The button placement on that thing is pants. It really doesn't look like it would make a good PSP competitor. It looks like their version of the OQO or some sort of mini tablet PC like that. It is kind of a super PDA, and is cool for that purpose.

It looks like microsoft want to be the center of your media world. It seems to compete *exactly* with certain functionality of the PSP. I think it looks like what it is Portable Media Center.

wow, that clip...just wow. I guess a gaming console is ruled out. That thing is huge. Damn if i want something for gaming thats a tad bigger, i'll get a lap top.

If it can run office and comes with that attatched keyboard that folds up into a kind of case (like on the video) and has a good sized harddrive i'd be interested enough especially if its quite cheap.... But if its actually aimed at games i wouldn't consider it. I basically want an affordable mini tablet!

After finally seeing the video my reaction.

Microsoft really is trying to be like sony in that that want to have you use their products in every room of your household. And that scares me. I'm betting they expect you to dump your stereo for a M$ mediacenter and then play games wirelessly with your origami connected to your Xbox and then buy the next game through Live while you talk to your friends on your palm cellphone that runs off widows mobile.

If I go back in time now maybe I can kill Bill Gate's mother before this horrible future comes to pass... and maybe I'll just break a couple of sony presidents legs, it might slow down their attempts a world domination to a more acceptable level for all.

Oh and also: I expect the Origami to be pure shit for gaming the way they show it there, it's like holding 2 PSPs and 4 Nintendo DSs taped together. I also expect the battery life from all thie wireless bluetoothing to be about 20 minutes... 30 if you turn down the LCD brightness.

Looks around the same size as my 12" iBook!!

I cant see what they are trying to achieve with this, a tablet pc for the masses maybe?

As far as MS go having windoze on my machine bugs me enough, im buggered if im buying any of their rubbishy, Chinese, slave labour made hardware :p

Now you can even bluescreen standing on the tube! :D

*yawn* my pc blue screens (win xp) all the time no wait it doesn't i dont reset for weeks only to do updates or install something (i always have full updates running thats about it.) I also have an Apple ibook but it just gathers dust maybe to everyones surprise i did crash the ibook quite easily its a nice design though and i appreciate how the os itself looks.

My opinion:

I myself might buy one if it had internet acess, could run emulators, had a place for a harddrive, had a keyboard, and could play pc games. Even then I would still have to think hard about it.

tbh ive not had xp bluescreen on me, Win2k on my SGI 320 bluescreens all the damn time, my old G3 PowerBook which I have used daily since 1999 has never crashed or frozen up in os9 or osx!

Im just a tad anti Microsoft, I actually threw a party when they gave in on the whole DR-DOS case, finally they get a little tiny bit of payback for stealing someone elses OS.

Oh dont start with the M$ vs Apple shit. Both OSs will fuck you the first chance they get, the only difference is OsX is more polite.

I've had my XP Laptop Bluescreen on me like 3 times in the past week, Why? driver issues when I plug in certain AC powered USB periperals. I'm sure thie new platform will bring with it all sorts of new problems for every feature it supposedly improves.

My Palm OS PDA has started making my laptop bluescreen. The question is, which OS's fault is it?

Microsoft steal stuff, it's a fact. Apple steal stuff, it's a fact. Heck, Mac OS is just Unix in fancy packaging!

To me, it looks like we're looking at some kind of hypermobile PC.

Like IPOD is an MP3 player, but people refer to just 'IPOD' as the brand, not the fact that it's an MP3 player.

Like Walkman as a tape player...

And so on...

A product comes along that is so successfully branded, that what it actually is...is never referred to.

If you see what I mean

Origami will be the name that (Microsoft hope) will be synomimous with a PC in your hand.

Walkman
IPOD
Origami.

It all makes sense.

...and I can't wait.

I think it's rather too generic. Ipod, Walkman, neither of them actually mean anything. Origami does. What if I wish to discuss about paperfolding, and people are like, "zomG! It's the coolest evah!!! Intel rockzorz!!!"...

I <3 paperfolding! (Seriously. I make penguins out of bus tickets.)

I don't think Origami will become a synonym for handheld computing because Palm have already done it. Y'know, a Palmtop. You'd refer to PDAs as Palms sometimes, I expect. Yeah.
