Official Gba Whine Thread

I've supplied plenty of info on the GBA emulator(s). All other GBA topics will be merged into this one, deleted, or locked and pointed to this thread.

Probably a silly question...but why hasen't that FAQ been linked to on the GP23x homepage?

offtopic: Hando is writing the FAQ script and converting the forum faq into a proper database-driven format. Well, he started :)

hmm when i saw the title i first thought it means GBA Wine = Wine a windows wrapper for linux... to use windows software, much faster than with an complete pc emulation.
read somethin more about this in forums, and they said its possible but very very hard...
so how similar are the arm 7 and arm 9, can arm7 compiled code run on an arm9 without any other modification of the code... so if this is possible you only have to emulate the gba GPU, that would be much much faster than the current emu, but there is still no room for bigger gba Roms... it would be much harder to exstract these.. or something like that.

so you heard this idea often, but is this really possible like i thought, or do you steel need much cpu emulation?
ok bye

hmm anyone heard anything about that gba emulator for the gp? i heard a few rumors a while back havent heard anything about it since

There was some talk recently about a new emulator, which may be able to run some homebrew GBA stuff, but it was made pretty clear at the time that the GP32 will never emulate GBA games well enough for them to be playable. GBC emulation is getting there nicely though.

It's discontinued
Zodiac jones was working on it but he never released a beta to the public.
Anyway it's way to slow to be enjoyable and most people can't run it beacuse it runs at 166 mhz.

Zardoz Jones, not Zodiac, well the emu ran at 3 fps and crashed alot, so I think it's a good thing that he didn't release it.

Speaking of Zodiac, it may actually run GBA stuff. It certainly has the RAM, and the 200Mhz will help too.

The RAM issue pretty much eliminates the GP32 from GBA emulation.

Go away.

Well actually, according to some people, GBA "emulation" (well not exactly emulation) COULD be feasible on GP32.

ThunderZ (author of NGP32) said he was sure that a decent sort of GBA virtual machine could be done, using ARM7 to ARM9 functions redirection, and emulation of the co-processor. He also said the ram limit wasn't that much of a problem, since ROM streaming is known to be a viable option (he said he had 2 or 3 things on his mind about that).

However he didn't say wether he would be working on it or not (and i doubt he will since NGP32 still needs to be finished)

If you can read french then head there -> http://www.yaronet.com/posts.php?s=28726

One last thing, a new GBA emulator has been announced by aquafish on the GP32news board, but i don't know much about that yet.

The way I see it is..

People are free to ask questions,
if you dont wish to answer nobody
is holding a gun to your head.

Simple

:p

This reminds me of all the newbs on the DCemulation boards asking about the N64 emulator for Dreamcast....Which was a hoax....but they don't seem to care.

how is the gba emulator for the gpx32????

also this may sound stupid, but is there anyway i can link up to my friends gba's or no. im guesing no, but just checking to make sure, cause everyone i know has a gba, so if i cant link up with anything idt be pointless to play by myself.

also i heard a rumor that you could modify your gp32 to play gba cartridges is this true.

sorry if my questiosn sound stupid, but im curious, this system seems 100X better than a gba.

sorry to write this in another help forum, there are 2 of them and this seesm to be the busy one, so if a mod wants to delete the message i posted in the other help forum they can
